Found the interview with Keith Giffen on Newsarama. He says the Justice League 3000 universe isn't the New 52, it's a universe like the pre-New 52 universe but where Ted was never shot in the head and he and Booster somehow ended up frozen.

Okay seriously, this somehow gets worse with every new detail you post about it.

Hauls! Diablo for the Playstation. You might be wondering why. Well I do have the PC version of it but there are some differences between that and the PSX. The PSX has a feature that not only allows you to save a game, but you can save a character separately and start new games with said character. The two player simultaneous feature means that you can also start a new game with a new character and move items from the saved character to the new one. Also, the graphics on my pc version are pretty whacked out and I usually prefer playing on a console anyway.

Transformers Evolution Optimus Prime two pack. I bought this exclusively for the repaint of Classics Optimus. I've already put my original Classics Prime in the box and plan to sell it on ebay. I like the colors on the new one much better, the chrome and the clear windows really give it a bright feel to it.

Star Wars Black 3.75" Toryn Far: The random Hoth rebel communications lady. I have a nice set up with the Imperial AT-AT with a speeder bike and the Snow Speeder wrapping the tow cable around the legs and lots of Snowtroopers... but the Hoth rebels are horribly outnumbered. Figure is about as articulated as it can be and it came with a mini headset. Score one for my Imperial call center!

Ultimate Force FX Yoda Lightsaber. Because green is the only color Lightsaber that I don't have and this was a chance to get one cheap.

EDIT: I knew there was something I was forgetting: Generations Tankor. review in the appropriate thread.

Thanks for the birthday greetings, gang!

My September hauls have been...

RC IR UFO - the one I got from Amazon was horribly damaged and misrepresented, so I got my money back and bought it at Radio Shack where it was on sale for $10. It's essentially the same as my old one, although the old one was more of a flying saucer than this which is more of a bell shape and has windows detailed in despite being entirely translucent, the old one was also a little more stable. I have a red housing one, the busted one from Amazon was blue which looked nicer but oh well. Controller and charger with this are a single unit though, which is nice. I tried to swap housings but there seemed to be friction caused somewhere, possibly the rotor shaft being a slightly different angle (the outer shaft had to come with the upper housing). The lights can still be turned on and off which is nice.

RC IR Aero Spin - saw this at Walmart yesterday, it's the same size as the UFO and it's blue, and only $12. But this has just a single rotor and balance bar, using fins attached to the body as the gyro-stabilizing rotor effect. This one has the identical controller as my original UFO except for labels and a spring in the height slider control on the new one, they work identically though. The Aero Spin is a little more stable than the UFO despite notable wobble from what I think is caused by the external LED bar glued to one of the lower fins. The lights can't be turned off, instead it has a new feature where it'll hover over a surface - the floor or your hand - losing half a foot in height and then quickly gaining it again. It's pretty neat.

Generations Skids - interesting, but is designed way beyond the tolerances that the cheapening can afford. There are stress marks all over this figure, in the package no less. The alt mode has door panels that won't sit flush because too thin of a plastic was used, the plastic used on this figure feels incredibly cheap. The design asks too much, the whole chest and head are held in place with whispers and dreams basically, while the shoulders slide out to become an odd mess that hinge upon very weak ball joints, the same found on the ankles. It barely works, suffering greatly from an overly ambitious design executed on a shoestring of a budget. The hips on mine weren't reversed thankfully, but that design should have been smarter anyway. I can't decide what to do with the windshield, why put it on a double joint if it's going to push the wings into the shoulders?

Windblade - not a terribly good figure. Between the very cheap-feeling plastics, the utterly bizarre head design, and the design that simply aimed for something it couldn't achieve and cut down some ideas leaving it a spindly mess and an ugly jet, the base idea feels almost entirely lost, and only gets points for personality to keep it from the trashcan. The bot mode's heels for her needless high heel feet are a disaster, the figure can hardly stand at all. The wings just don't have anywhere specific to go, there's these extra joints for something nobody needed, and that is found in the wing fans too, there is no reason they should tilt forward. Meanwhile, the jet mode suffers from a "robot underneath a jet" viewed below, and above has robot feet and shins loosely sticking out of a rear fuselage that has to borrow some of Skids' whispers to keep it from just tangling into an even gappier mess than it already was. The sword is kinda ok, the scabbard tabs to the hips or against the backpack, and has a 5mm peg just for being held in her hand. Her hair fan is removable to be a handheld weapon, another "why would you put so much budget into THIS?!?" moment. So her rear landing wheels are permanent and very flimsy, but at least she has a friggin' removable hair fan weapon and movable shoulder pads and extra wing joints that are useless.

Roadbuster - kinda cool and kinda chintzy. The forearms having big wheels hanging off? Chintzy. The legs having wheels fold flat? Cool. A bunch of accessories? Cool. Half of them are hollow from a whole side? Chintzy. A fair amount of articulation joints? Cool. Zero of them have the same tolerances as each other so some are super tight to the point of ejecting half the joint while the others can't stay up, and the ratchets are so tight on double joints that aren't ratcheted on the other half so they fold the wrong way, and one shoulder positively sags out of position? Chintzy. Crazy G1 paint scheme and Wreckers logo sticker? Cool. Paint smears and fades everywhere? Chintzy. Friggin' Hasbro! I kinda like this figure, even though its transformation is one step away from being embarrassingly simple, but all the chintzy stuff hurt it, and then I found out that mine is assembled wrong in one of the feet leaving the clown shoes never quite looking right in any position and deforming alt mode, and that was the point I got to feeling like maybe it's time to hang it up with Hasbro altogether.

KO Masterpiece Sideswipe - got it off ebay for $34 shipped. I went back and looked, the seller I got it from didn't mention it was a KO anywhere, but it was. Mine came very fast from China, and in some ways it's actually better than I expected, while a few small ways it's worse than reviews suggested.
Better:
- Lamborghini hood ornament is there and looks pretty good for scale.
- "Lamborghini" and "Countach" on tail are correct.
- Lamborghini box seal is pretty darn good.
Worse:
- a few spots of flash to remove.
- paint isn't so much better than Takara's mismatch problem.
- missing silver paint on codpiece.
So overall, I did alright, I expected the oddities like the ever-so-off Autobot logo on the hood and the lack of black paint around the headlights and some loose joints. I forgot about the inability for the torso to tab into the chest, but this was covered in reviews, and I think it can be corrected. It's a good mold but has a few places where they could have done better, such as the brick where the tailpipes go, and the slightly hollow-from-the-side torso. I fixed the torso tab situation with a small knife.

And some replies...

Dry spell indeed! TF product in resets in my area is choking with old stuff that was backed up from last season when it was held back due to the movie and similar distribution problems. Plus, my birthday was expensive, and my car needed a bunch of work, the second-to-last of which is happening right now.

That's really interesting about Kirby and GA, I hadn't heard about that before!

That ML Iron Man Space Armor figure really does look like ass, i get the hate.

Toryn Farr is the only woman in Empire Strikes Back who isn't Princess Leia, so naturally Hasbro reused the Hoth Leia figure.

I'm not really gonna fault Hasbro on that one since, I know for a fact that with that headset on, I've had more than once where I was watching Empire and mistook her for Leia (usually the times where I wasn't paying that close attention). And this is also my problem with military themed figure lines in general: They're uniforms so any two characters with the same body type are essentially going to be interchangable parts wise. It's why I was never that into the GI Joe side of GI Joe. I was always way more interested in Cobra's troops because they were all different with different colors and whatnot. Not the average "yet another army guy in green" that we had on the Joe side.

Well not the figure, the armor design itself is what I hate. I've loathed its look since I saw it in preview pages back when the first Marvel NOW! was happening. The toy looks like the comic design, so because of that yeah, it looks like candy-coated ass.

I keep ordering stuff off Amazon. I'll let you know when it gets here.

FWIW I quite like Roadbuster, the iffy shoulder joints and cruddy knees being the only major detractors for me, though I didn't lose the QC lottery like you always seem to. His snore of a transformation is a problem, though at least the thing with the feet in the roof is a neat little flourish.

That's one of the things I've been enjoying about older comics. It's more satisfying to learn something from reading the actual story than it is reading a wiki entry somewhere. :)

I hear ya, that is what I meant, the design looks like ass, the figure's crime is it looks like the design.

You are cruel, since the feet in the roof is the thing that doesn't work on mine. :p

Got a hugeass box from Amazon yesterday! This started as me deciding to order A Goofy Movie and Mystery Men on DVD because, seriously, why don’t I own those things yet, then added some things for my brother and sister-in-law so we could get the free shipping, then I placed a separate order to get the second Volume of Terra Formars when that came out, added stuff to THAT for free shipping, and then Amazon apparently decided “Hey, he’s being a cheapass with shipping anyway, so we’ll just slap everything together and ship it at once!” So they did, and I got:

A Goofy Movie DVD – Seriously the most underrated animated Disney flick. One of my all-time favorites.
Mystery Men DVD – Another favorite, also underrated. Michael Bay is in this movie!
Terra Formars Vol. 2 – Still in this series for the high concept, and the timeskip employed in this volume is an interesting mechanic. We’ll see how it goes.
Seconds – Bryan Lee “Scott Pilgrim” O’Malley’s new graphic novel, kept meaning to get it, but kept forgetting, now I finally have it. It looks like a big, fun read.
Transformers Vault – Yeah, finally got it. Barely skimmed through it so far, but it seems very cool.

I got a lot of reading to do!
