More than Meets the Eye (IDW ongoing comic)

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

#31 is very dialogue heavy. Although I found it interesting to find out the Lost Light was named for this festival of lost lights, but that didn't really explain anything new about the ship or have any clues what happened to it, or is happening to make the crew disappear. I was hoping we would get a bit more about the ship's history in this issue at least. So yeah, I'd have to agree it was a dull issue. It only gave us more questions.

I have to say, while some of my buddies liked this issue, I didn't care for it. The pacing was slow and the end result was unrewarding, the payoff for the acquisition of the ship was underwhelming, this just felt like filler.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

More than Meets the Eye #32:

The generally predicted (across the fandom) appearance of the Decepticon Justice Division is implied this issue. Roberts nicely inverts the "cult of personality" and shows the drawbacks of having adhering too aggressively to an ideology. (The Justice Division is not loyal to Megatron, but the ideals he pushed. When he renounced those ideals a few issues ago, he made himself a target.)

The time-bending this issue may have been planned from issue one. It may also be a way for Roberts to work around (*cough*ignore*cough*) "Dark Cybertron". Those theories are not mutually exclusive, nor do they rule out other moves by Roberts. Assuming that elements like

Rewind being raised
were planned, I am okay with this. It might also be a way to weasel out of killing the characters from the Necrobot's list. (Again, if it was planned, it is okay. If it was a post-hoc dodge, it is problematic.) I am willing to give Roberts the benefit of the doubt for now.

This issue still hasn't shipped to my shop, I didn't know it came out anywhere this week. Guess I'll just steal it.

That's because it came out last week (August 27th).

It didn't ship then either, wasn't even on the list for my shop. I was under the impression it was delayed (I confirmed with Dom that it hadn't shipped to his shop yet, either).

Maybe if comics didn't suck shit at telling you when things were coming out (dates, you cocksuckers, give us DATES) and then actually getting them out on time, we wouldn't have this problem, but they do, and we do.

That's really odd. I wont be stopping by my LCBS for a few more weeks yet myself, but I know people got the issue last week...

Yeah, would be nice to have a better system for letting people know the release schedule. I've got the Previewsworld.com New Releases page bookmarked because they update it on Monday's with everything that's out that week. Or at least is supposed to be...

I use comiclist.com, myself, to keep aware of what's coming out that week, but we as consumers really shouldn't have to rely on third-party websites to let us know barely a week in advance when things will be out. I have genuinely never understood why ads for comics (in issues, online, those little flyers and postcard things that get put in your bag) utterly refuse across the board to put specific dates when things will be coming out, it's extremely frustrating, not to mention counter-intuitive for the industry. It's like if there was a commercial for a new TV show that was coming out, but it didn't tell you what day or time it would be airing!

And can we please create a standard practice where at the end of any given comic issue, the little preview blurb for the next issue has the date that'll be out? That would help immensely.

Oh, and while we're at it, can we also please have comic shops hang big fucking banners in them screaming "NEW COMICS SHIP EVERY WEDNESDAY!" so people are immediately aware of that being how it works? That was the most frustrating two years of my life.

Jeez, I love reading comic books, but they are the opposite of fun to actually keep up with and obtain.

Books used to be routinely late. Things have gotten better in a general sense--it's nothing compared to Marvel before Shooter's era, for example--but it still happens.

If you don't promise them a date, it can't be late. I dunno if you remember, but even early in the MTMTE/RID timeline, they flipped around. I know, it sucks, but that's how it is. And I agree with you that it needs to be fixed.

I bit the bullet and took this off my pull-list today. I'm just not enjoying the series any more, and care less and less what happens to the characters in between their banter sessions. I still haven't even read last month's issue, apart from the scene between Megatron and Ravage, which presents a fairly plausible reason for Megatron choosing to be an Autobot. I'm keeping RID for now though.
