The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!
Sparky Prime wrote:I recall seeing a comment from TFW2005's coverage of the Hasbro SDCC panel after they showed that image that they made Optimus a combiner just for the fun of it. Although I have to say it wouldn't surprise me if IDW incorporates that into their upcoming Combiner Wars storyarc, considering how they've been using the toys in the comics and in how they explained Devasator's ability to combine with anyone of compatible design.
I just checked my notes for the article, they said they did it only because it was "cool".

Pretty sure the slide and the panelists said "Motormaster", but they didn't make a big deal out of it the way they did with Bombshell's name.
See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?
It appears Combiner Wars is coming with a rename for RID to just The Transformers.
I noted that when I first saw the article as well, but took it for a goof.
So what does this mean for MTMTE? It seems unlikely that IDW would just up and cancel such a well-liked series, but then why rename RID to something so unified if nothing's happening to its sister book?
Interesting that they'd drop the RID subtitle. I'm guessing that might be because of the upcoming cartoon of the same name to avoid confusion.
With all of those Transformers colonies being revealed in the Windblade comic, I have to wonder if they'll address that Cybertron sent out that signal for all Cybertronians to return home in the Death of Optimus Prime issue. Did these colonies get that message? Because for as many Cybertronians that did return home, it seems a LOT of them didn't, especially now that we know there are entire colonies out there as well...
Also it kind of annoys me that Barber says: "Plus—he’s the Prime, which means he the leader of the Autobots—but Starscream is the leader of Cybertron. The war between the Autobots and Decepticons is over… so what does being “Prime” even mean, anymore?". They've already established in the IDW universe the line of the Primes predates the Autobots, and is supposed to be of the leader of Cybertron as a whole. Given that's currently Starscream's role, I can see what he's going for, but the way he phrases it here I think isn't quite accurate to what's been shown in the storyline.
Well it is in keeping with Rodimus' comments to Optimus in Dark Cybertron when Optimus kept insisting on being called Orion Pax because he didn't want to be associated with the Primes of the past. Rodimus tells him something about how he's redefining what it means to be a Prime and that was when he started going by Optimus Prime again. In trying to redefine the title, it would make sense for Optimus to explore what it means while also establishing that it doesn't mean being ruler of all of Cybertron.

As I recall, that had to do with Optimus having found out how corrupt his predecessors had been and feeling unsure of himself with the end result of the war. Nova Prime's plans to expand Cybertronian society and dominate the universe. Nominus Prime's reign causing a great deal of oppression with the expansion of the Functionalist government. Sentinel Prime being basically just a thug for the corrupt Senate. Zeta Prime using civilians to power his vamparc ribbon weapon to try and crush the Decepticon rebellion. Then after he saw how the NAILs reacted to him upon their return home to Cybertron, blaming him for the state of the planet, Optimus wanted to distance himself from the Prime name and legacy of corruption. So I wouldn't say Optimus has redefined what a Prime is, it's more that he's redeemed it. Optimus reclaiming the name only after Rodimus reminded him of all the good he's done in the role, telling him it's because of his actions that still gives the Prime title its greatness despite whatever his predecessors may have done.
Oh that's right, it was redemption. Still, he still has the title and isn't leader of the planet, so he's going to have redefine the role somewhat anyway. Should be an interesting read.

I'm sure they renamed it due to the upcoming cartoon, and MTMTE is likely safe, what with Windblade and Primacy not getting a title change.

I would guess they either didn't get the transmission, or it didn't really feel like it applied to them since they don't consider themselves Cybertronian anymore.

Even if they don't consider themselves Cybertronian anymore, you'd think if they got a transmission telling them to come home that they'd send someone to investigate at least, or have a few citizens curious about where they came from originally, not unlike the curiosity Windblade has shown about Cybertron and its people.
