Posthuman: Before the Dawn (My superhero world)

Post by Misanthrope Prime »

I've had this world, in some form or another, for ten years. Those keeping track of my nebulous age means that, yes, this began when I was six, in a very rudimentary form. Even then, however, I always liked the idea of the superhuman, not against the world, not against a villain, but against his species. This is distinct from the X-Men, in their "mutants are an allegory for Homosexuals/HIV Positives/Minorities", but moreso, it's almost... a chronicle of a man's own humanity disappearing as he bounds across rooftops and saves the world. At the same time, it is also a bildungsroman, the main character having always been a stand in for myself. Originally a so-called "sue", as only a six year old envisioning himself as a superhero can be, but I also am working on this series to detail a young man's acceptance of maturity as well as renouncement of morality. Nietzsche's concept of the ubermensch is central to the character, not in a generic sense, but in the sense of "a man who rejects the crumbling society he is forced into by birth, and creates his own morals and life".

Posthuman chronicles the superhero known as "Misanthrope", as well as, later on, his associates. The three biggest influences on this series are existentialist philosophy, film noir, and, a favorite of mine, Tokusatsu. Esoteric and artsy, you may say? Too highbrow? That's the magic.

I've envisioned this as a TV show, or some other form of visual medium, preferably CGI, with plenty of fight scenes to keep the masses enthralled. Misanthrope himself has his fight style based very heavily off of Krav Maga (which I know a lot about due to my friend's father having extensive training in it).

This series is nowhere near completion, being a few notes in my file (to illustrate, I have about two folders full of notes and concepts for Posthuman, compared to half a filing cabinet for my Quantum Magic series). In the following posts, I shall detail the world and characters in Posthuman, as well as a few individual stories I've crafted.

Note: My art sucks. If any of you would like to help me with concepts, either for Posthuman or Quantum Magic, I would be much obliged.

I can draw.

ESPECIALLY for money.

But probably not, because I'm too lazy to ink or colour even the humblest concept work.

So, Misanthrope fights against his own kind? Like Sol Badguy zomg?

I wanted to train one of my characters in Krav Maga, because the least I know about it is that it's a very disarming-focused style (riiiight?), and that's all they want to do; take weapons off folk. Trade you pictures for Krav Maga info! =p

Krav Maga is actually mostly about fighting in a disadvantaged situation. Such as on the floor, with one arm disabled, while blind, etc. Yes, it teaches you to disarm someone, bit it also teaches you to kill someone with a banana and your teeth.

Heh, sounds like the FIlipino arts I studied. My mum was really proud I was studying "self defence" and would tell all her friends how great it was I was learning to peacefully disarm and restrain people... When, in practice, I was learning how to poke eyes, dislocate elbows, and generally hurt with sticks. Such is the difference between "warrior arts" and "soldier arts" (kali/eskrima/arnis being the latter). I assume krav maga doesn't teach specific weapons, though...?

Anyhoo. Do ya really want me to draw stuff? I do have a "style", like, but hey, it might not be too far from what you want. I was raised on toku and anime 25 year-olds think they're cool for watching *now*, so... But I can post some examples or whatever. I do like bringing other people's ideas to life, a moo ha har.

Ahahaha. Crow is playing the guitar. Right, I'm going to bed.

"Ohhhh LEAVE BRONX! Baby leeeeeaaaave the Bronx!!"

Is that the MST3K episode with Toblerone?

My friend Beryll is at whichever level you need to be to teach both Kendo and Eskrima. I myself have very little martial arts training, but have been doing a lot of research for the biophysics of the series.

If you want to help me with concept art, what I will probably do is email you one of my atrocious sketches and have you redo it to the point where peoples' heads do not explode.

Except in a Hokuto Shinken kinda way. ATATATATATATAAAH! So yeah, email away, my address is in my profile, rite? Just send me someone easy-but-relatively-important, and I'll see what I can do. Failing that, I'll pass it on to my girl, who's an infinitely better artist but DOES charge.

WOMEN, amirite?? No, I am not.

And yes, Toblerone. I've been sick for the past week, and MST3K in bed has been helping me recover.
