I'm tired of silver faction insignias

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

I'm tired of silver faction insignias

Post by andersonh1 »

I thought I'd place this discussion topic in the movie forum since that's mainly where the trend of using silver Autobot/Decepticon symbols instead of red/purple began, although I remember some solid black insignias in Cybertron. Now it made sense in the context of the movie universe, where more subtlety and less cartoony color schemes were the name of the game. But I've seen the trend carry over into Animated, where it makes no sense, and sometimes into Robot Heroes, and I wonder if it will show up in the Universe line at some point.

I'm a traditionalist. I prefer red Autobot insignias and purple Decepticon insignias. Anyone else annoyed by the trend of using gold or silver or black insignias instead?

Yeah, it's boring. Only a couple of other people even believe me that the post-Movie Autobot insignia has been given meaner eyes (check em out, they slant much more than the old ones)... It's like XTREME 90s bollocks ten years too late.

Don't worry though, it's the nature of a long-running (and self-consumptive) franchise to get cyclical after a while; eventually everyone will be so BAWW SILVER SYMBOLS, Hasbro will just have to change them back.

Especially if it gives them something to do instead of actually improving toy quality (and that's not a jab at the current state of TF tech; the Animated toys are mostly fantastic, but it IS a habit of Hasbro's to fix what ain't broke and ignore the obvious lacking areas).

Of course, I'd much rather see a series with all-NEW factions, but whateverrrr...
COME TO TFVIEWS oh you already did

I wouldn't need to see entirely new factions, although using the G2 symbols would rule. Still, it's that iconic kind of thing, y'know? The second posters for the movie had the 'Bot and 'Con logos on them.

And yeah, the Movie 'Bot Logo is screwy with the eyes. There's actually multiple incarnations of the faction logos, with RID being the first real time they were redrawn...

I still want my awesome Universe 1.0 Filler Line With Cartoon, with Big Convoy fighting Galvatron and guys like Polar Claw and Insecticon are there.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Indeed.

I don't mind the symbols, as long as they're consistent however.

Silver symbols suck. Black symbols I'm cool with. As for the Movie symbols..I guess they really are Japanese, ho ho.

I'm also tired of tampo'd symbols in general. Moulded symbols = cool, optional stickers = cool.

I like the molded symbols quite a bit actually. They feel more integrated and less like an afterthought than tampo'ed insignias do. Of course, as you say, since every single mold is a potential repaint these days, the designers don't want to restrict themselves to one faction or the other.

They often smooth those out, though. See: Cybertron Jetfire, Red Alert, and Overhaul.

Yeah, the silver's kinda dull. But do we really need NEW things to dislike about the movie(s)?

Oddly enough, Odvdcom's original posts were all advertising DVD sales, and now he's gone and changed them. I think he's pretty much a troll anyway.
