October Hauls
Hooray, October already. God damn, Christmas is creeping up. I want my 2008 back.
Sucked it up and got Incredible Hulk Movie Abomination today, regular flavour. I'd been debating getting him for some time, since the figure's got some slick detailing and the design's kinda cool. Had been waiting for the niftier one with pop-out back spikes, but caved since there was a sale.
Actual figure's a mixed bag. Detailing is indeed very very cool, Hasbro have been amping up the movie stuff of late, it's a good sculpt. Thick and veiny, bones protruding from the skin, real stretched look. He's pretty grotesque. Especially dig the neck's veins, the way the feet evoke the classic Abomination, and the spiked knuckles. Colours are blah, though, very little paint in general. There's red over the bone areas with bone-white highlights, and some weakass green spray ops, plus a few more bony parts, but this thing's got details out the wazoo (Hell, if he had a wazoo, it'd be detailed too), really needed a wash to highlight it. I expected more paint apps after Iron Man.
Few other problems too. The accessory's a write-off, it's a big steel pipe that's bent and comes apart. No action feature, which is good, but he used a heavy chain in the (average) movie, that would've been a vastly cooler inclusion here. The other problem is articulation. Mine has some loose joints, which aren't a deal-breaker, but do annoy. The real problem is in the range of motion for the knees, neck, and elbows, which are pretty limited. His biceps can actually rotate independently from his lower arms, which helps some thanks to their sculpting, but doesn't fix the issue, he's kinda static. The neck also swivels weirdly, not allowing for too many poses.
Finally, a criticism of the design itself: I appreciate the need to make him less of a gargoyle in blue shorts, but damnit, the ears. Story goes that they thought people would question why Hulk didn't bite them off. Firstly, that's ridiculous, why would anyone randomly assume Hulk would bite off his ears? Is Hulk know for ear-biting and no-one told me? Secondly, if Hulk DID bite off his ears, that'd make for a fun fight. Thirdly, I find it pretty silly that anyone would question realism of that variety in a movie about people mutating into giant green things. The figure feels like he was originally designed to have said ears, and is rather unbalanced without them. I used some poster putty to give him some and see how it looks, much better.
So, overall, an average experience, and I'm glad I got him on sale. Even putty ears help, heh, and he's a decent display fig at work. May still end up getting the spikey spined version when it finally makes it here.
EDIT: Awesome, we can sticky for a set number of days. That'll make the haul topics neat.

Maybe people confuse The Incredible Hulk with Iron Mike?

Had some new tires put on my car today, and found them at a decent enough price that I can go pick up Onslaught, and maybe TFA voyager Prime later today.

Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye, Official Guidebook Vol. 1- Saw this at the comic shop and waffled a bit before I decided to grab it, and ended up getting 20% off because there were some dings on the cover, swish. This is going on the shelf to make the Beast Wars Sourcebooks feel bad about themselves.
Transformers Movie Grindcore- Went to Wal-Mart looking for either Marvel TF Human Torch, or Elite Guard Bumblebee, found neither. They did have one languishing Grindcore though (whom I'd previously thought they were sold out of), and that $7 Deluxe sale was still on, so I snagged him. He's neat enough. The size-changing in TFA had me thinking that his compact little vehicle mode would unfold into a bigger robot, but instead he ends up as an equally tiny robot, heh. I find the need to actually *turn* the key to activate his feature quite cool, probably would've found others more entertaining had they done that. The 'attack mode' feature that lets you spin both blades together simultaneously is neat too. His gun pretty much looks ridiculous no matter where you put it; not only is the missle oddle shaped, it's WAY too long. Still, not bad for $7 dollars. I'm not sorry I didn't pay more, though.

Re: October Hauls
Comics!
I am really loving comics these days.
Only four this week:
Marvel Apes #1-2: Because I like Marty Blank, AKA the Gibbon. Especially after his appearances in Fraction's Punisher run. Anyhow, yeah, Marty winds up in an alternate Marvel Universe populated entirely by monkeys, apes, and other primates. And some of these super-powered simians harbor a dark and terrifying secret. For reals. The story's got an odd mix of goofy fun and kinda disturbing elements. It also has beautiful Folgio-esque art. So to make it short, way better than you'd think.
Punisher War Journal #24: Wow, I thought after last issue that Fraction was done with the book, since it seemed so wrapped up. Nope. In this issue, the Punisher deals with the Secret Invasion thing. Apparently, the Skrulls shut down every piece of Stark technology on Earth, including the prison that held the Punisher. Upon seeing the invading Skrull interstellar warships descending on New York, Castle does the only logical thing. Steals a car and some gun, heads for the landing, thinking "They're gonna need help". Why I'm so addicted to this book is all summed up in this issue. Somehow, it's badass madcap goofy fun.
El Diablo #2: Interesting. The character's kinda Ghost Rider...but he's a gang leader Ghost Rider with demonic cowboy powers. Also, the creative team? Local boys. Face facts, guys. Soon all comics will come from KC! All of them!
Top Ten: Season Two #1: Right, well, there was that Top Ten: Beyond the Farthest Precinct thing, but I'm guessing that Gene Ha and Zander Cannon didn't care for it much, because it's been hit by a retcon bomb and wiped right on out. Good thing, too. This book does so much better about capturing the feel that made Top Ten one of my favorite comics. I'm so in.

Re: October Hauls
Wal-Mart's getting a lot of my money lately, thanks to the $7.77 sale. Yikes.
Picked up 4 figures today. Universe Galvatron, Sideswipe, Bluestreak and Ironhide. All of them look good in package. I love these old characters, and I love the fact that they are meant to be the originals, not new figures with homage names.
Galvatron - tiny, but the tank looks good, even with the orange barrel.
Sideswipe - the red Lamborghini looks better than the yellow, and the silver metallic paint on the engine is an improvement over the plain grey plastic on Sunstreaker
Silverstreak - I hate trademark loss. Anyway, the paint scheme is an improvement over Prowl's plain white and almost orange Autobot insignia. The black and silver color scheme is really sharp
Ironhide - generally looks good, though I'm not sure about all of that light blue. Allspark power Ironhide?

Re: October Hauls
I hope I can find Ironhide and Sideswipe while the sale is still on.
I did pick up TFA voyager Prime though. He isn't bad, but they should have figured out a way to add at least one grapller to him.

Re: October Hauls
New paycheck! Let the spending of way too much on Animu begin!
One Piece: Season 1 Second Voyage- Sanji woo!
Strawberry Panic Vol. 4- A nice surprise, wasn't expecting to see this there. Positively adarribibble cover.
Was hoping to see the Negima OVA there, but apparently that's not out 'til the middle of the month. Also need to order Maria-Sama ga Miteru too. And maybe, just maybe, buy some toys while I'm at it.

Re: October Hauls
Yeah, I haven't posted AT ALL lately. I'll try and catch up over the weekend.
Anyhoo, got the first trade of JMS's new Thor series on Wednesday and LOVED it.
Got a line on the issues I'd need to catch up today. I'll go nab 'em tomorrow.

Re: October Hauls
Sometimes, circumstances come together that make me have to do something.
For instance, when I wandered into Vintage Stock and found this guy at 25% off...

I mean, what could I do?
Now I need to find a few parts for him, but still, I'm pretty happy with this haul.
