But, the problem is that if we remove the MInicon sigil, we are basically saying the forums are for fans of Beast Era and earlier. The movie or Unicron Trilogy Autobot and Decepticon sigils are not immediately distinctive enough to differentiate from the G1 sigils. (I have trouble seeing the differences, and I am a long-time fan.)

I can see adding a red Maximial II sigil, if only to balance with the Vehicon sigil.
Basically, the Minicon faction symbol balances against the Vehicon one. But you make a good point about the Minicon logo being what carries it forward.

I'm kicking the Beast Machines Maximal symbol, the eyes aren't that recognizable and the rest is just too similar to the BW version. I think that gives me enough focus to produce the one I have in mind, which is basically what we already have above, just with a little more polish.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

So, I added a slightly glassy reflection of the logos to the chiseled letters, which sorta sells both concepts but sticks with the one I like more. :p Anyway, here's what I came up with:

With border:

Without border:

I don't prefer the border, so I kinda phoned it in despite the fact that several people felt a border would help. I don't think so tho', and I'm pretty sure I'm not going with it.

Thanks.

I had to use a tiny javascript to make Internet Explorer display these PNGs with all their transparencies, it's built into the browser but not native - stupid Microsoft idiots. Anyway, if you saw any of these gray before in the background, they should work properly now.

65 to 80% of the internet makes my life miserable by continuing to use that turd of a program. Also, thanks to workaround for the turd of a program not properly handling the transparencies of the PNG format, on IE 5.5 and 6, mousing over the linked images only works on the actual image part, the gaps between the letters is unlinked. Smoooooth.

I like the reflection. It may be a bit subtle, but it does tie the two elements together nicely, in my opinion. I think you solved that visual problem quite well, and I think It's a better solution than the border which just doesn't do much for me.

Putting the bright red Autobot symbol first draws in the eye, and then cutting all the logos off just below the eyes helps make them the focal point of each insignia, particularly when TFViews is read, and the connection between the eyes and viewing is made. At least that's how I read it. :)

Great job. I saw the logo up on the top of the board when I checked in today, and it looks great.

Part of me feels like the News and Forum buttons are lacking somehow or other. Perhaps you could turn them into animated GIFs with a line appearing under them, and rig up the Javascript to make the line appear when the mouse hovers over it. Or add a border, or something. I dunno.

I think I agree with O6 on the buttons. They should look...more like buttons. Right now they're just words kinda nebulously floating in blue space. Maybe a border or something, I dunno.
