How much do you love or loate Black repainted Optimus toys?
My 2 cents: I'm sick of them due to the market being overly saturated with them. I'm at the point if Hasbro/Takara can't make the existing mold look good in 1984 optimus colors then I'll just skip the mold & not buy it. I don't like buying more than one mold & with optimus toys I prefer the original 1984 iconic colors on newer Optimus Prime toys.
If they released 1 or maybe 2 in 20 year time frame,I think these Black optimus/convoy repaints would be more unique/special/rare. but sadly to release several dozens from 1996 thru 2013 makes these black optimus/convoy repaints seem very generic/over done & just a royal pain. as they all get reduced to generic nothings.
Sure like others way back in 1996 When the whole Black Convoy craze first hit,I was in awe & thought they were awesome. but as the years went by,I realized all the Black Convoy/optimus repaints looked too dull & lifeless. for me the 1984 Optimus colors look the best on the new optimus toys. The black repaints just look like a generic evil optimus who is a drone with less developed persona than optimus/convoy has.

I like them fine, though the only one that's ever really clicked with me as a character was Scourge from RID. He had his own name and personality and a decent reason for resembling Optimus Prime. Once they started churning out "Nemesis Prime" every line, I wasn't nearly as interested. But the color scheme looks good, even if the rationale behind an evil Optimus Prime doesn't really exist.

The only Black Optimus/Convoy toy I own is the 2001 Rid TRU Store exclusive Scourge that cost $29.99.andersonh1 wrote:I like them fine, though the only one that's ever really clicked with me as a character was Scourge from RID. I had the Black lio-convoy Voyager toy but I gave them away to younger relatives.

...seriously, just gave away a rare, Japanese-only toy to a kid?
I mean, yeah, toys are supposed to be for kids...but damn. Give them stuff that's currently out and appropriate for their age. Not Black LioConvoy.

I'm generally not a fan, much like not being a fan of a white Optimus being passed off as "Ultra Magnus". The only black Convoy I've liked so far was Scourge from RID for reasons Anderson stated above. But other than that, yeah, I don't really care.

RID Scourge, Universe and Alternators Nemesis Prime are the black Optimus figures I own, and they all work on their own for what they are. I don't generally care one way or another, but I find myself not buying as many as I do buy mostly because I already have the mold in regular colors.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?
