FOC Grimlock, y u waste plastic on ill-fitting light-pipe?

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

FOC Grimlock, y u waste plastic on ill-fitting light-pipe?

Post by JediTricks »

I noticed this the other day, FOC Grimlock's hollow chest from behind shows a pair of light-pipe elements that go nowhere. Obviously they were supposed to fill in the holes next to them and create another pair of red light-pipe sections of the chest. Here's the empty holes from the front:

And here's the same view from the back with the worthless light-pipe elements that go unused:

My guess is that a factory designer or a Hasbro designer didn't correctly calculate the lateral shrinkage these pieces would endure on cooling, everything else lines up fine but these 2 segments, wasting quite a bit of plastic in the process.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

My complaints with this toy is:

the over sized/weirdly shaped ugly robot upper chest piece.

That dull/ugly caramel color Hasbro chose for various parts on this toy in both modes. Clearly this was Hasbro being cheap & not wanting to use the higher end colors that had more shine & better colors in them.

Plastic doesn't work that way.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

I was referring to what Takara does by adding a glossy finish afterwards like they did to CR Fire convoy or like Takara does with the Henkei TF toys when they apply a vacumized metalic paint job afterwards.
