Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

ASIDE FROM THE GREEN COLORS????????????? Then buy the mass release or TRU GDO version for under $20 & pretend it's obsidian.
Because what your basically saying is you like the mold choice, not the Green colors, only due to the fictional Obsidian name attached to the retail mold.
Yeah, I really have to wonder what kinda crack they were smoking with this set. It's so disjointed. I mean, we've got, what, 2 generations molds, 1 Beast Machines, 1 Bayformer and 1 Prime mold. None of which really seems to work together aesthetically. Seriously, this set is a mess. And basically just reissuing Obsidian in colors already seen? Now that's some bullshit. They've basically just put a mass release toy in an exclusive set. Epic fail Funpub, epic fail.

Because that would have Highbrow or Powerdive's head on it and paint jobs. They wouldn't look like Obsidian.

No, that's not what I'm saying. I do think the Highbrow/Powerdive mold is a good choice for Obsidian and the new head is perfect. I think that it actually fits the character, not just because his name is attached to it. But as BWprowl and andersonh1 pointed out earlier, they used the cartoon colors for Strika while they used the toy colors for Obsidian. I would have preferred the darker cartoon colors on Obsidian rather than the toys bright green.

To be fair, all three of them are green. This is what drives me the craziest about it, really. I'd love to own that mold in black, or purple, or something.

I feel you, I think this was one case (unlike Strika) where FunPub picked a mold that worked really well for the character. But it was a swing and a miss with the paint job. They swung a similar strike with Megaplex, the Dreadwing mold being a great choice for the character...if they'd just remolded the head.
All the wasted potential of this year's set just kills me.

True enough, but I was referring to details that distinguish them from each other. Like Powerdive having a shark painted around the cockpit or Highbrow having a lot more white on his robot mode. Despite sharing the same mold (except for the heads), I'd say all three of these figures really stand apart from one another.

Wasn't the Universe version of Obsidian purple? That might have been a good look for this figure. There was also an RiD version that had a desert camo type of paint job. Saw a digi-bash someone did using that paint scheme, and it looked pretty cool. Better than the bright green at least.
Maybe I missed something, but isn't Obsidian just a reissue of the original Beast Machines toy? Or was there another mold that used the V22 Osprey?
EDIT: Ok, I just looked at Botcon.com again and that's a P-38, not an Osprey. And definitely NOT the original Obsidian toy. So it begs the question what was the original base figure for this mold? I don't recognize it.
EDIT #2: Googlesearch yielded images of Highbrow and Powerdive. Interesting.
EDIT #3: Having seen all three now, I do see why they used it for Obsidian, but they really should have gone with cartoon colors, especially if that's what they were doing for Strika. I mean, if they're going to make the pair, be consistent, either go cartoon on both or go toy on both but geez, don't just mix it for the hell of it. Once again, this set is epic fail.
My guess is since Hoist is the only autobot surronded by 4 other decepticons in the 2013 botcon gift set. looking at past TFCC botcon years, the majority of the Souvenir/Add-on figures will be autobots. basically 2/3 of the add-on figures will be autobots. while 1/3 of the add-ons are decepticons.
My guess is the botcon freebie figure will be deluxe sized as they've never given away a voyager sized toy & probably never will. the 2013 botcon freebie figure my guess will be Hubcap which will be a repaint using the Hoist gift set figure.
re-looking at Botcon 2013 Megaplex, the toys colors is nothing special nor spectacular,it's basically just TFP Skyquake's colors swapped around & in slightly different color shades. NOTHING ABOUT THIS BOTCON MEGAPLEX TOY MAKES ME WANT TO SPEND $60 TO $100 BOTCON/SCALPERS PRICES TO OBTAIN IT.
IMO,The color scheme for 2013 Botcon Megaplex looks extremly similar to Botcon Banzai-tron. Both figures use almost the same grey same green shades colors.
LASTLY,I find it odd that the TFCC writers have Jhiaxus create the clone megatron body & call it Megaplex. At the very least the TFCC writers should of had STRAXUS create the clone megatron body & called it Megaplex as Straxus in the Marvel G-1 UK comics joined sparks/minds with megatron for a while. then a while later in the marvel UK TF G-1 comics Straxus built a clone body of megatron & put his spark into that body.
Except Straxus would be dead by the time this was taking place. (Supposedly this is after G2.)
I don't see much on Banzai-Tron in there, he was a dark grey colour, with purple as his secondary. Even so, Megaplex's colours come from the original toy, so.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.
