TimeLines (BotCon) 2013 discussion

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

Aw man, we all know this was Barricade's year, too!
Edit: And, apparently, Fun Publications is selling the custom class figures independent of the classes. I am not sure what the production runs will be. But, this is a step in the right direction.
This is a really, really good idea, in my opinion. Now the people that don't care about learning customization skillz and just want the toy can go that route, and the class itself can be more focused on teaching said skillz since they'll know they've got a crowd of people who genuinely give a shit about learning them. It's win/win!

The main problem with fun pub is all their PENALTY prices. Those non-class customs should be less because supplies & teachers are not included.

Obsidian is green because they're using the colors from the original Beast Machines toy release. I'd prefer the show colors myself, but either way I may have to see if I can get Obsidian and Strika at some point. I'm fond of both characters.

So when are either Barber of Roberts going to introduce them to IDW's universe? Famous generals from Cybertron history, and we've never seen them during G1? It needs to happen!

Yeah, I get that, I just think it's stupid because a)they used the show colors on their version of Strika, effectively making the pair of toys mis-matched, and b)this mold was already done up in green twice already. The decision they made was a very, very strange one.

Plus that Warpath mold just really doesn't work for Strika.

Yeah, Strika's toy colours might actually look cool on the mould.

As far as I know, the custom class figures sold outside of the class will still be unpained, unassembled, fresh from the assembly line figures. They will essentially be bare-bones kits. (I seriously doubt that Fun Publications will include paints with them.) At most, the toys will include copies of the *assembly* instructions.

If somebody does not have an aptitude or interest in customizing, then they will not be able to do anything with the figures/kits aside from putting them in a box and forgetting about them. (Of course, some collectors are likely to do this.)

And, from what I have heard from people who have been in the classes, specialized tools are needed to put the figures together. (Some parts were not made to be assembled by human hands. It is not even safe to assume that rivet/screw holes have been bored out.) I would have trouble with one of these kits outside of the class.

-it is still a huge step in the right directlon to be selling them though.

Late edit: Megaplex to be a recolour of the "Prime" Skyquake" mould.

The only toy in this set that I really dislike is Obsidian. The rest are not bad toys, but they are not worth convention prices. Unless one of the at-show sets really impresses me, I will be saving money this year.

We can safely assume that the troop-builder is going to be a recolour of Skyquake, if only to cover the cost of two voyagers in the boxed set. There is usually some mould sharing between the boxed set and the pther at-show exclusives. And, the last few moulds that have really impressed me have all been used by Fun Publications in the last few years. Unless they sneak a Windcharger recolour in there, I am all set. (I really like that mould, even discounting the character.)

Aaaaaaand Megaplex.

Well I’ll say this: I at least like the mold choice. The Dreadwing mold is one I enjoy, and the presence of the sword and fusion cannon make it a good fit for Megaplex. Now, if only they hadn’t blown all their head-remolds already and had to leave this one with the stock head, meaning it still doesn’t really *look* like Megatron, thus defeating the point neatly.

But the new bio/backstory rustles my jimmies like no other. The whole ‘decoy’ concept is thrown out the window, with this Megaplex simply being a clone of Megatron made by Jhiaxus, effectively making this guy just a copy of Megatron for them to use for this story because the regular Megatron wasn’t available and they figured they needed to stuff Megaplex in there somehow. So whatever.

Had they at least remolded the head, I might have been interested in getting this one, but as-is, no thanks.

As a Prime toy, it looks cool. As Megaplex? Fuck no.

Waste of time.

If they were going to use the Skyquake mould, WHY NOT DO STARSCREAM?!

Color me impressed,This "Megaplex" is hands down the best figure in the box set. I think the mdium grey, neon green & white looks great on this TFP Dreadwing/Skyquake mold.

Howeverm,I don't think 2013 Botcon Megaplex is worth those botcon $60+convention prices, then it's especially not worth the $100+ Scalper ebay prices.

I agree with 06,2013 Botcon Megaplex, definately needed a newer head sculpt. As the TFP Skyquake head has that TFP toy line house style.

My guess is the 2013 Megaplex mold will be duplicated in the Souvenir/add-on set. My solid guess is this clone will get a new head sculpt. I HIGHLY DOUBT THIS WILL BE THE TRIO TROOP BUILDER SOUVENIR/ADD-ON SET. Because usually the trio troop bilder set use deluxe molds not voyagers. Using a voyager trio troop builder will make this souvenir/add-on set sky rocket in price well over $160+

My guess is the box set figures for Obsidian or Stryka get used as the add-on trio troop builder set. As BM used these guys as drone armies.

I can certainly see TFCC surprising everyone by having the 2013 convention souvenir/add-on figure be megatron with a megatron styled head sculpt using the TFP Voyager sized Skyquake toy mold.

Yeah, I'd have agree the Dreadwing mold is a nice enough looking figure, but it just doesn't fit Megaplex's character IMO. At the very least, it needed a new head to give it more of a Megatron inspired look.
Onslaught Six wrote:If they were going to use the Skyquake mould, WHY NOT DO STARSCREAM?!
Now that I think would have been a really cool use of this mold. Still might have needed a new head to complete the look, but I think the figure would have been more suited for a Machine Wars version of Starscream than it does Megaplex.

Obsidian, aside from the green paint job, I'd have to say is still my favorite out of the set.
