Spotlight: Megatron discussion

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

The F22 is, at best, a failed attempt at making an all-purpose fighter jet. The designers tried to incorporate broad functionality, and created a plane that can do many things badly. In more cynical, if realistic terms, it was a boondoggle from start to finish, and all of the problems were wholly predictable. (I always like the idea of Starscream being an F-22 for that reason.)

And the wings, with their weird polygonal shape...I just don't like it. The entire silouette looks like a mess. Meanwhile, the F-15 still holds up and looks sleek as hell.
Conversely, I love the look of the F-22. I like their more modern, beefy, polygonal shape as opposed to the blockier, 'older'-looking F-15. Developing my Movie Starscream fetish only increased my love for the look of the jet.

I can't say anything to the performance of either craft, since I know nothing about these sorts of things.

Related to the comic we're technically discussing here: I actually missed buying it last week, it was sold out at my local comic shop by the time I got there (I have to go after work, getting there about 5pm), and the review I posted here was based on scans I'd read. Well, I'd lamented missing the issue to the guys working at the shop (Not bitching or anything, mind you, just a "Did you guys get Spotlight Megatron in today?" "Yeah, but it sold out." "Aw, man."), and when I went in this week, they had gotten a copy with the incentive cover in, and handed it right to me when I walked in the door. True bros, these guys are at times. I need to try legitimately chatting with them more when I'm at the shop.

I like the look of the 22, but it does have some performance issues. I actually read an article in Air Force Times detailing the issues they're having with it. I guess there are also some design issues like there's a particular panel that notorious for falling off midflight. And I know this is enormously Geewunny of me, but the Seekers were what started my love affair with the F-15.

Like Prowl, I actually know nothing about aircraft. I base my entire thinking on how things look. (The SR-71 is awesome because it's huge and cool-looking. I don't care if it's obsolete.)

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

The funny part about that is that it's retired from service but not obsolete. Many of the systems and components on the SR-71 are still in use in other aircraft and are still largely classified.

Sorry, my Dad was in the Air Force for 20 years so I kind of know a little bit. Sort of.

I do like the F-15 alt mode on Starscream. There's something to be said for a classic, real-world vehicle mode.
F-15s are dated. They are not quite as dated as the SR-71 or Soundwave's original alternate mode. But, they are dated. If nothing else, an F15 would be a terrible disguise because it would stand out too much.
I was actually thinking more of how I missed recognizable vehicles now that all the characters are on Cybertron or out in space, and that seeing the first actual real-world vehicle in over a year's worth of comics was what reminded me of that. Who cares how "appropriate" the vehicle is? That's beside the point, honestly.

What is to be sorry about? You filled in some blanks.

Dom
-had thought the SR-71 was wholly out of commission at this point.
