2013 Hasbro NYC toyfair discussion thread with tons of pics.

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

substituting beast modes for robot modes is fan fiction. I go by Hasbro TF toy/media bible,not some fans made up fantasy world
That isn't fan fiction at all. Hasbro didn't use the term "beast mode" in G1, that was introduced with Beast Wars and later on. Trypticon's box only calls him a dinosaur. And some G1 packaging refers to Transformers with beast forms as robots anyway, like for the cassettes: "Transforms from cassette to robot and back!". So no, technically Trypticons t-rex form is his robot mode because, again, not every Transformer has a humanoid robot mode.
I refuse to waste anymore time debatting this non-sense.

Once again you get caught up in technicalities & what not. which always diverts you from the real picture.

REAL PICTURE------> Kids in todays era are not going to spend $125 for a 30th or 31st titan sized Trypticon toy. WHY? Because it's just a boxy huge T-rex with no robot mode,no vehicle mode. the transformation consist of the T-rex splitting down the middle to form a city mode/attack mode. Due to the huge boxy T-rex mode,there are only a few joints that can be added to the T-rex legs,super tiny arms & over sized T-rex head. It's just not worth the trouble to add "MAYBE" 4 more joints in the 30th Version that the 1986 Trypticon toy didn't have.

It's not really non-sense when that's how Hasbro has referred to them. And I found another example I wanted to share, Sky Lynx's box says that he "Transforms from Space Shuttle and Transporter to Sky Lynx Super Robot and back!"

Oh for fuck's...

Here, look. This is Trypticon's instructions. All Hasbro does is say "to transform dinosaur into Decepticon City." They NEITHER use the term "beast" nor "robot" mode. (In fact, I'm fairly sure that the term "mode" didn't become commonplace until Beast Wars splattered it all over the packaging. Maybe G2 or some later G1 toys did it, but G1 doesn't seem like it does.)

Ravage's instructions don't mention his jaguar mode at all. Literally.

Sky Lynx is weird and doesn't count for shit.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

I said that the packaging only refers to him as a dinosaur without distinguishing it as a "robot" or "beast" mode already.

Find a picture of the front of the packaging, right under where Ravage and Rumble are. It clearly says "Transform from cassette to robot and back!". It says that for all of the cassettes, regardless of what their robot mode looks like when the majority of them are based on animals.
Sky Lynx is weird and doesn't count for shit.
Now you're just evading the point. And that point being what the packaging refers to them in their "robot" mode as, when they don't have a humanoid robot mode. Technicality or not, the real picture here is that Hasbro has called it a robot mode even if they have an animal type form instead.

Robot =/= Humanoid

I have to go with what Shockwave said on this point earlier... It would be a redesign, so it wouldn't simply be a boxy T-Rex with a city/attack mode like the G1 toy version was. You can bet a modern design of Trypticon would have a lot more articulation and more features in its alternate forms. Just like they did with this new Titan sized version of Metroplex. Might even give Trypticon a "Nemesis" mode instead, given his portrayal in WFC. Besides that, there are plenty of kids that love robot dinosaurs. If there are kids willing to spend $125 on Metroplex, there will be those willing to pay it for Trypticon if they ever make one like that.
