Mastaaaaah Foce!

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!

Prowl is too blue, not nearly enough yellow. Cliffjumper works out because black and blue are close enough. (Mind you, I don't actually own Cliffjumper.)

Red Alert is too much like Red Alert to work, see. The head's all wrong, the hand tool thing is very character-specific (part of why I hate just about every repaint bar Cannonball) and he's way too short and stocky--not the right body type.

Anyway, I'm finally catching up on episodes! Overlord showed up finally!

This one I can see. But it's been a while since I've pulled out this toy -- it was not one of my favorites in the toyline.
Shuta - No clue here, although a good repaint of Energon Hot Shot might do. Also thought about Energon Prowl, but he's too blue and not enough white.
RID Super Prowl? Yes, a bit earlier than you were thinking.
Cab - Energon Inferno (There are very few fire trucks in TF, actually, and making this guy Cab/Hosehead works better than almost every other one)
Sure.
Ginrai - Cybertron Optimus Prime/Galaxy Convoy. Galaxy Convoy is practically a full-on Ginrai homage anyway. Add in the Wingsaber combination as Godbomber...
Cybertron Optimus Prime is one of the most distinctive Optimi they created. I really cannot see him as anything other than Cybertron Optimus Prime. PowerMaster Optimus Prime is pretty easy to pick up since it's been reissued, so I'd just go for that.
Road King/Slapdash - Energon Cliffjumper (Cliffjumper is a yellow and black...dune buggy thing, as opposed to an F1 car, but whatever!)
RID Mirage GT, a bright yellow redeco of BM Mirage, packaged with Scavenger GT and um Spystreak GT or something like that.
Lightfoot/Getaway - Movie/Classics Breakaway, who is clearly just a Getaway homage anyway. A nice Reprolabels set would cover any other inconsistencies.
Agreed.
Ranger/Joyride - Dunno
Cybertron Hardtop. He'll need an Autobot sticker.
I'm not wearing any pants.

Repurposing is customizing for the lazy and untalented. Just sayin'. (Yeah, I might do some half-assed customs. But, dammit, for each of those, I do at least a few good ones.)

I just want either a re-issue of Overlord or a modern (Voyager or larger) toy of Overlord that does not look like a half-assed custom.

It bothers me when it is done in an official capacity, like Movieverse Armorhide being SG Huffer, but how people play with their toys on their own doesn't do anything to diminish the characters that are already there.

Energon Galvatron makes a much better G1ish Galvatron than Universe 2.0 Galvatron in my collection. But that's just because in my estimation, Universe 2.0 Galvatron sucks, and that Energon is a lot pointless slog that peters out long before any characterization is applied to the otherwise perfectly fine toy. It allows me to enjoy a toy that would otherwise not be enjoyed.

True story about Universe 2.0 Galvatron:
I agree with you about that mould sucking. It is the only CHUG mould that I have skipped altogether. (I actually got an Octane/Tankor in a trade, and got the hell rid of it because that figure is also pretty bad. I actually felt bad giving it to a friend of mine because it is so terrible.)

Back to Galvatron: I consider a point of honour to have never had any pressing of that mould. I even skipped that three pack from Japan despite the fact that I actually wanted the Cyclonus and Scourge. Why? Because that mould sucks. It sucks ass.

Dom
-we should probably move the repurposing to the customizing thread.

Probably, which is what I initially said, so!

There's a reason I limit my customizing to GI Joe, and even then I rarely do drastic, full-figure repaints. (Interrogator is about as drastic as I've ever done.)
