Combining remolds ideas for botcon toys or retail TF toys

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Combining remolds ideas for botcon toys or retail TF toys

Instead of wasting money doing head remolds. how about transferring that same money into creating combiner ports & pegs on the future botcon convention toys. or for mass release retail toys released by hasbro & takara.

Adding pegs & ports is apparently extremly easy for Hasbro & Takara to do with various TF toys. Hasbro/Takara added minicons ports to some beastwars toys they recolored & put into the armada toy line. Hasbro/Takara added cyber key gimmicks to some armada & energon toys they put into the cybertron toy line. So it should be easy to add combiners ports & pegs to make some non-combiners TF toys combine.

Theirs just so many different previous TF toys that could easily benefit from getting combiner ports & pegs added. then turned into combiners.

Examples below:

1986 Terrorcons combiners team members that could form abonimus: (1)Hungurr,using the year 2005 ultra sized Scourge toy.
(2)Blot,using the deluxe 10th anniversary optimus primal toy or the BM Deluxe optimal primal toy. (3)rippersnapper,using the deluxe BW Sharticon or deluxe energon sharticon toy. (4)cutthroat using the bwneo deluxe airraptor toy (5)Sinnertwin,using the deluxe BW/Rid deluxe Bruticus toy mold.

1986 Predacons combiners team members that could form predaking: (1)Razorclaw using the cybertron voyager sized leobreaker toy mold. (2)ramhorn,using the BW TM1 Rhinox toy mold. (3)divebomb,using the BW TM1 deluxe airrazor toy. (4)rampage,using the BW TM1 Cheetor toy mold. (5)horribul,using the BM basic sized bull/bot.

1985 Stunticons combiners team members that could form menasor. (1)Motormaster,classics 1.0 voyager sized optimus prime. (2)dragstrip,using the classics 1.0 deluxe mirage toy. (3)deadend,using the classics 1.0 deluxe TFP Knockdown toy. (4)Breakdown,using the classics 2.0 deluxe sideswipe toy mold. (5)wildrider,using the classics 1.0 deluxe rodimus toy.

1985 aerial bots combiners team members that could form superion: (1)silverbolt,using the classics 1.0 ultra sized silverbolt toy. (2)airaid using the deluxe 1.0 starscream toy mold. (3)fireflight,using the TF Prime FE deluxe starscream toy mold. (4)slingshot,using the deluxe HFTD 2010 Terradive toy mold. (5) skydive, using the ROTF deluxe Dirge toy mold.

1985 protectobots combiners team members that could form defensor: (1)hotspot using the classics 2.0 voyager sized inferno toy.
(2)first aid, using the classics 2.0 deluxe ratchet toy. (3)grove,using the deluxe RTS Deluxe wreckgar toy. (4)blades,using the deluxe HFTD 2010 Tomahawk toy mold. (5)streetwise,using the classics 2.0 deluxe prowl toy or the Movie verse deluxe barricade toy.

Combaticons combiners team members that could form Bruticus: (1)Onslaught,using the classics 2.0 ultra sized onslaught toy mold. (2)Swindle,using the deluxe 2.0 hound toy. (3)Brawl,using the 2007 movie-verse,deluxe brawl toy. (4)vortex,using the HFTD 2010 Deluxe Tomahawk toy. (5)blastoff,using the classics 2.0 deluxe Astrotrain toy mold.

I'm not sure it would be that easy to retool the deluxe toys with merge points (at least not if the combined form is going to have any stability). I mean, let's take Menasor for example. We already got two of the Stunticons. Drag Strip is a direct repaint of Mirage and in alt mode, most of the space is used up with limbs. I really can't imagine where they would put a combiner peg sturdy enough to support a voyager sized toy as a leg or one that would flip out to become an arm. And one could argue that for Breakdown they could use the head, but do you really think that tiny ball joint the head is resting on would be sturdy enough to support the Motormaster Optimus repaint? I seriously doubt it. And again, the alt mode doesn't really have any extra space in it for the combiner peg due to the limbs taking up all the space. Unless you wanna get into parts forming, but Hasbro doesn't really do that with combiners anymore and if it's going to go that route, then one could argue that FunPub could just create the extra parts to combine them.

Shockwave correctly pointed out an important consideration in combiner designs that I thought your post overooked, TigMeg.

Simply addiing a connection port doesn't guarantee sturdiness in the combined figure. A toy that was not designed with combining in mind may not stand up to the added weight of other figures latched on, and just collapse on itself.

Then, there's also the issue of individual figures' exact measurements. Combiner limbs - especially the legs - all need to have exactly the same lengths, along with adequate structural sturdiness, to ensure the stability of the combined form. Just picking a few figures to repaint based on their alt-mode's resemblance to their G1 references won't guarantee successful integration into a combiner set.

Besides which, just look at the various combiner kitbashes out there. The successful ones require a lot more than just connection ports. Even FrenzyRumble's kitbashed Devastator - widely considered one of the greats in kitbashing and one of his more epic creations - had one leg module longer than the other and had to be positioned further out to the side to stand properly.
