movie draft

Post by Dominic »

Does anybody know where I could find a copy of the infamous 1986 script draft?

I checked the "Disciples of Botax". And, apparently the place there were storing it got raided by the Feds. (It seems there were doing more than hosting old movie scripts.)

Does anybody else know of anyplace to find the old draft? I have yet to read it all the way through.

Ooh, the Megaupload thing! Yeah, that's a case of people using the service for legitimate needs and, surprise! It got shot down.

Which draft? There are several. Here's one:
http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/transformers.html

It includes Stripes and co (the early Blaster tapes) but doesn't have the weird Autobot zoo and Anibots (preproduction Predacons-as-Autobots).

Here's a TFW post with scans. Now I'm not sure if this "draft" ever actually reached "script" stage; maybe it was just story beats like this?

Dunno, we'll have to ask around. (Ask Sorenson. He'll know, he put it up.)

I just want to chime in here to say how surprised I am that Dom A)was apparently unfamiliar with Megaupload and B)had not heard about the FBI shutdown/raid.

There might be a link or something on the Wiki. I dunno, maybe I'll look around later tonight.

The Wiki just links to Sorenson's site. Apparently the entire Internet was content to go, "THIS GUY HAS IT!" and let that be the end of it.

Part of why I hate some of this whole Internet culture of "ownership" and "credit." If you do something like take a photo or draw something, okay, cool, but if all you did was discover something on a website, or scan an old script draft, then fuck you, you don't get some exclusive rights to it or something.

I am fine with people taking credit for research and discovery. Of course, far too many people do not credit original sources or research.

What exactly happened with MegaUpLoad? I admit to knowing nothing about this.

Megaupload was based in EnZed but apparently one of their servers was in the US.

"Temporary" file upload sites like Megaupload, Mediafire, Rapidshare, etc. are pretty common places to pirate things. You just zip up an entire album, or comic book, or video (if it's small enough) and throw it up on one of those, and boom--instant hosting for pirated media, and it's not exactly hard to find this. (A Google search for, for example, "Metallica Ride The Lightning mediafire" will, nine times out of ten, turn up a direct link to a Mediafire upload on the first result. The second result is usually a separate site that specifically catalogues downloads from sites like these. Yes, really.) I can personally state that I've downloaded tons of illegal stuff from Megaupload before.

So the FBI busted them, because, duh, illegal content. (Megaupload was also involved in some shady business practices, and also went out of their way to draw attention to themselves. They had a video with a bunch of famous rappers and such literally singing the praises of the website's speed and versatility. I suspect if they didn't make that video, they wouldn't have gotten taken out.) The problem is, as we see here, there was also lots of other legitimate (or mostly legitimate--no telling if we're "allowed" to share those scripts or not) content hosted there too. I know that I've personally uploaded music files I've 'made' (and thus own all the rights to) to Sendspace, Megaupload or Mediafire before to send them to 86 or other people.

The FBI notice was mentioning crimes far more serious that piracy. But, even so, the piracy is objectively reason enough to have shut them down.

Dom
-takes pirated content when it is not otherwise legitimately available.
