Fools, we are back! A little earlier than last year, but we're invited again to participate in the Transformers 2012 Hall of Fame voting thread:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1055

And again, it's a global announcement thread so no matter where you go, there it'll be reminding you to VOTE VOTE VOTE!

We only have 1 week to determine who is the best of the best of who's left.

It's pretty much the same game as before - we get to be part of phase 1 where each fan site gets an equal voice, then those ranked results are combined and from those ranked results we go to phase 2 where the fans vote directly on the top 5 choices on Transformers.com later in March.

I kept my votes from last year, except for Grimlock and Jazz who have been pre-determined winners. So I chose Ravage and Jetfire, and honestly I won't be surprised if those off-the-cuff choices get changed at some point in the next week.

BOOM! Changed my mind already. That's a bad sign. :p While setting up the '12 HOF voting file, I realized I have never voted for Devastator, and as much as I like Jetfire, Devastator is cooler in my book by a large margin. Ravage is my favorite of the mini-cassettes though, so I kept him for now.

I went with Mako's list (with a couple exceptions). After the fiascos of the last two years, I've decided to go with a BW character this year. The fact that my fave G1 character is an automatic for this year has nothing to do with that decision.

I went back to edit Blakarachnia into my list only to find out that you and Tiger had her on your list too. Very cool indeed!

I kind of wanted to put her first, but then when I saw your list with Rhinox listed first I kinda had to follow that since when I thought about BW characters I could vote for he was the first one that came to mind. As for reasons I put BA, I always liked her character the best and I have a strange affinity for black widows. Seriously, there's a northern black widow living in my garage that's been there for several months.

I dug up my old post from last year and adjusted it:
1. BARRICADE - Mostly #1 because I really want Barricade to win it. I feel like the fandom kind of eschews the Movie universe for what the Movies are and not what the actual universe itself, and the potential it has, is. Even a competent retelling of the Movies could be awesome, and would also much more likely feature Barricade 'being awesome.' Barricade's influence shows in the fact that we got a guy in ROTF who was clearly meant to be him (Sideways) and also Barricade appeared in the WfC game. Sure, it was "sort of" G1 Barricade, but you can't tell me that Movie Barricade had nothing to do with it.

2. THUNDERCRACKER - Because Thundercracker.

3. PROWL - Prowl's become a major focus of IDW lately, it seems like everyone who writes the TF book wants to use Prowl because the idea of a Corrupt Douchebag Autobot who is only doing it for the Greater Good seems like it's very fun to use, and lends a lot of credibility to the Decepticon cause.

4. WHEELJACK - Wheeljack seemingly got ignored for a long, long time, but he's usually one of the guys that most people remember from G1--he's actually the first Transformer we ever see onscreen in the cartoon series. He was on the cover of the new RID book (despite not really being in the book that much) and he was one of the first new characters introduced in TF: Prime. He's got an iconic look (being an iconic car) and a great personality--that personality was enough to put (some variation of) him in DOTM, and that look was iconic enough for him to get a (cancelled, sadly) retool resembling it in the toyline.

5. ULTRA MAGNUS - Ultra Magnus has a great character in him, he just hasn't usually been used correctly. But he *has* gotten a lot of toys over the years by virtue of basically being an Optimus Prime repaint, and I think that legacy should be honoured. Magnus is cool! And he doesn't want the glory, but damn it, he should get it.

Looking at everyone else's entries this year is REALLY interesting, there's a smattering of different characters now and I think that's awesome and says a lot for TF as a brand--it's RICH with characters and concepts that go far beyond the 84-85 cast. And that's why I love TF! Once you get the guys everyone likes out of the way (Prime, Megs, etc.) then you get a bunch of other dudes from God knows what continuity.

We need to keep the Erectards out. (None of them have posted since last year.)

In any case, I say we throw behind one TF and try to push them over, both in the preliminary and the finals.

JT, what is the dead line on this?

My initial choices:

-Barricade: New and recognizable character from the movie.

-Vector Prime: A character from the UT that has been transposed elsewhere.

-Prowl: An iconic character that has gotten a sustained and meaningful push in recent years.

-Thundercracker: Iconic character. And, post-Thundergate.

-Mirage: Iconic character from G1. Had defining moments in early issues of the comics and episodes of the cartoon.

Dom
-might revise this a bit.

Dom's addition of Bludgeon is making me reconsider some of my choices. I have a hard time reconciling between Magnus and Bludgeon--I'd almost say I hold them in equal importance.

I am looking at characters that have been, or are, legitimately important to the fanchise.

Vector Prime is getting a push. But, it is as part of Hasbro's ill-defined "Aligned" continuity, so I dropped him from my list. Bludgeon was part of a defining run of the comics in two countries, and has had some staying piower. (And, ya know, this might get us a good Bludgeon toy.)

I do like Wheeljack and all. But, I do not want to be pushing all Autobots or all 84/85 guys.

And, as much as I happen to like Windcharger or Redalert, there is no way in hell that I can justify them being in a Hall of Fame.

Other characters I considered:
-Brawn: Just to get all of the shuttle crew from TFTM.
-Dirge: Because having a charter member of the Mayhem Attack Squad, (precursor to Squadron X), who is a 1985 character *and* dies in multiple iterations appeals to me.
-Buzzsaw: The forgotten tape who kills everybody.
-Ratbat: Decepticon leader. Tape. Hero to us all.
-Death's Head: Because he was sort of a TF character, and he shot Bumblebee to hell.
-Impactor: A Wrecker dammit. And, who ever said that they had to be toy characters...
-GB Blackrock: -or even robots?

Dom
-anything but a BW character....
