HTFD Lockdowns head would it look good on TFP Vechicon body?
I noticed the TF Prime vechicon deluxe toy has sort of a TFA & HFTD Lockdown alt mode design. So i'm probably gonna take off HFTD Lockdown's robot head & place it on the TF Prime vechicon's robot body.
with any parts swaps it's always frustrating as the parts being swapped need to be the same type of plug & play design.
i'm just hoping that the HFTD Lockown head & TF Prime vechicon heads have a similar ball joint design & accepting port/socket design. i'm not that great when it comes to overly customizing parts.
a few years back,i did manage to take off a TF Prime lockdown robot head+neck & transfer it over to the Marvel cross over venom robot mode. the head+neck fit on perfectly. the problem was the stupid spider white venom tatoo's designs all over the toy. I tried to put decepticon repro labels over the venom spider symbols but the venom symbols were too big & the decepticon reprolabels i had were too small. I wound up throwning this custom out.

You could have painted over the Venom striping before putting the stickers on. Alternatively, if you had the resources available, you could have buffed the stripping off.

I bought & tried some RIT black color dye but the white factory applied paint over the molded black plastic didn't dye black. .Dominic wrote:You could have painted over the Venom striping before putting the stickers on. Why not just remove the paint? Paint thinner isn't expensive.

It harder than you might think to find paint-thinner that will not destroy plastic. But, it would have been easier to paint over the striping.

I tried using paint thinner & other similar products. but the Marvels cross-overs toys use extremly soft plastic. The white venom spider symbols lightned a bit but still didn't come off. yes the black plastic did melt & warp a bit.Onslaught Six wrote:Why not just remove the paint? Paint thinner isn't expensive.
Factory applied painted over molded plastic is very hard to remove.
sometimes you get lucky & the factory applied paint does come off the toy. examples: i used paint thinner to remove all the yellow factory paint that was on the universe ultra sized 2.0 powerglide black repaint,i think the toy was called stormcloud. the yellow factory paint came off the face plate & the knee caps.
most of the time it's not easy removing factory applied paint. that is painted over for high light details over a colored molded plastic.
I tried to cover up the venom spider symbols all over the toy. using decepticon reprolabels but I couldn't find a decepticon symbol bigger enough to cover the gigantic hood/chest venom spider symbol which is around 4 inches by 4 inches.
I wound up throwing the toy in the thrash.

The problem with paining over the venom spider symbols factory paint. is their is three venom spider symbols all over the toy. which covers nearly 30% of the toy. the venom spider white factory paint covers nearly the entire hood/chest of the car/robot mode. you'd have to paint the entire hood black to not make it look awful. then you'd have to paint the entire other parts black not to make them look awful.Dominic wrote:It harder than you might think to find paint-thinner that will not destroy plastic. I have zero skills in painting. I have zero skills in knowing what paint is best to buy. I am also rather sloppy & always make a mess when I paint.
I'm sort of a expert when it comes to using Rit color dye. I've nailed the formula down & produce awesome results. sadly factory paint via high light colors refuses to dye another color. So my success is mainly RIT color dying TF toy parts with no factory high light paint in them.

I also don't like the look of a layer of paint applied to a molded plastic TF toy. using a tiny paint brush & dipping into those tiny hobby paint jars doesn't look professional & the end result looks amateur & sloppy.Onslaught Six wrote:Learn patience! It's the key.
I like the look of RIT color dye & how it dyes the TF toy plastic another color.
I seriously need to learn & look into the art of "dry brush strokes" & air brushing using that tiny air machine. maybe i'll watch a few you-tube how to videos or take a few art classes that show how to do "dry paint strokes" & air brushing techniques/machine.

Game Workshop makes a black paint that dries very cleanly. You might want to try that. It also helps to make the brush damp before using some of the darker, more reliable, colors.
