The fact that you two are going back and forth on this really just kinda proves my point. DC: What a mess!

Anyway, siphoned some minimal expendable money (at least enough to settle up at the comic shop). So I settled up at the comic shop and made it clear that it would be my last trip as I am getting out of comics. Settling up included getting updated on the ongoing so thoughts on that later.

Joking aside, yes, they do still hold up for me. Read the run as a whole, (minus Crap-fest, erm "Chaos"), and it should become clear that Costa had a plan from the beginning. The slow burn was both intentional and necessary.

That is the problem though, there *is* room for non-war stories. Look at the Kup story from "Coda". The only rounds fired in that story are on a target range. And, well, there are some honest fisticuffs. But, you get the idea.

It is not even a question of conflict in a story being bad. But, why does it have to be the same damned thing over and over and over...especially, (and I know I have said this before)....

when early part of the run specifically called itself out on that....and had the characters acknowleding it in context.

I was being a little sarcastic when I said that. I know that there are plenty of good non-war stories waiting to be told, and O6 even outlined a few. It's just that too often the official canon never moves beyond that point. Every official TF story has the ongoing war as a backdrop. The times of peace that we do hear about are all somewhere in the distant past or off-screen away from whatever current battle is happening. I know it doesn't make much sense to have non-war stories in TFs. It'd be like doing G.I. Joe without Cobra. But still, there's plenty of ways to generate conflict for a story other than full-scale, global war.

"Last Story on Earth" is really good. You should read it.

Mostly my issue is with the fact that every other episode has The Fate of the Entire Universe and All Known Realities as the default stakes, but yeah. Too much "action". And disembodied choir soundtrack. Yaaawwwwn.

I assume comic books have their equivalent of generic "symphonic" scores a la LotR, Harry Potter etc.

They do. Sometimes we get Generic Downtuned Instrumental Metal (I call it Instrumetal!) and sometimes we just get Shitty Generic "Movie Score" Sounding Shit. Neither of which inspire me much.

Of course, for all you know, Dom might hear Tchaikovsky, Justin Bieber or Belle & Sebastian when he reads comics. But I take the point that most of these comics aren't aurally inspiring.

See above, Crab. Every other episode is basically a War for All Existence That Ever Existed and it's incredibly trite. Never followed the show anyway, but now that it's gone big it's a shame it's sacrificed something that made it so unique.

Ok, Transformers was rarely not about BATTLES but at least it slowed the pace often enough.

I agree on this. IDW hints at this sometimes. I would like to see an arc told formthe perspective of one of the species that is (sensibly) hostile to Cybertronians. Things are going well for that species, and they do not want Cybertronians carking it up for them.

Actually, if I do "hear" a soundtrack for comics, it is generally appropriate instrumentals, possibly from the (legitimately good) TF movie soundtrack.
