Re: Comics are awesome.
Most of the new costumes look bad. Robin in particular looks stupid with wings instead of his cape. Superman's new look is just awful. Without the red trunks and yellow belt to break it up, there's too much blue. The more I'm seeing of the redesigns, many of which are clunky and lack the simplicity of the originals, the less I like.
I do like that Dick Grayson is returning to his NIghtwing identity, and that apparently the Batman and Green Lantern books will be affected the least by all of this. I guess the writing will make or break everything, because the redesigns are killing it at this point.

I actually really like Red Robin's new costume. I'll admit I'd prefer he had a cape to the wings but I think that's growing on me. And I'm glad he's back to wearing a domino mask instead of a cowl. I don't think the cowl look really suited Tim. Really like that Dick is going to be Nightwing again, and his new costume is almost exactly what I expected. He's worn a version like it before for 2 or 3 issues. All of the Superman family costumes I think could be better. I don't mind that Superman lost the red shorts, but the new suit looks... bulky, when it should look streamlined. And what's the deal with Superboy? His self titled comic he looks like a cyborg, while in Teen Titans apparently he's gone emo, wearing all black and a bar-code S-shield tattoo on his arm. Some of the new costumes I can see lasting. Others, I don't.
It'll be interesting to see what else DC changes story wise with the relaunch.

Tattoos must be cool and modern, because now Mr. Terrific has them too. He's lost his jacket with "Fair Play" on the arms, and instead has Fair Play tattooed on his biceps. So now the world's smartest man is going street thug/gang member? Are you kidding me?

Because only street thugs and gang members have tattoos, am I right folks?!andersonh1 wrote:Tattoos must be cool and modern, because now Mr. Terrific has them too. Sorry, I haven't even seen these redesigns, and I don't doubt that most of them are bad, but come on, let's not be ignorant here.

Mmm. Quite. Sorry to play the Fashion Card, but tattoos haven't been exclusively "thug" in the west since the 80s!BWprowl wrote:Because only street thugs and gang members have tattoos, am I right folks?!andersonh1 wrote:Tattoos must be cool and modern, because now Mr. Terrific has them too. I do agree that there's too many tattoos in the new U (and fiction in general), though. Especially those hideous "tribal" ones. My friends who study martial arts and I have even accepted "MMA Tattoos" as a legitimate term, as they're so widespread and of generic design in the sport.
But yeah, tattoos are downright 'normal' now. They're just another item of modern hip clothing, like baggy jeans and backwards baseball caps-- uh, I mean like pre-faded hip-huggers and trucker caps.
COME TO TFVIEWS oh you already did
Re: Comics are awesome.
So, any word on Multiversity? Well? And now, the only comic from DC that I'll be buying: http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/06/1 ... an-comics/
I might chuck "Batman Inc." for this. Maybe. (I am not dropping another Marvel book for a post-"Countdown" DC book.)
Wow. Totally worth all the hubbub about Dick taking the bat-cape then....do like that Dick Grayson is returning to his NIghtwing identity, and that apparently the Batman and Green Lantern books will be affected the least by all of this. Yeah, I know that Marvel is just as guilty on this front. But, setting everything back to what it was is tiresome and predictable.
I think it is supposed to look like street clothes, hence the bulk.don't mind that Superman lost the red shorts, but the new suit looks... bulky, when it should look streamlined.
And, I actually did pick up a random DC book this week:
Emperor Aquaman #1: This is a "Flash Poin" cross-over. Appranetly, the high concept of "Flash Point" is that something or another altered the time line and now things are all terrible or something. If you read "Age of Apocalypse" in the 90s, you read "Flash Point". This issue seems to be taking advantage of the fact that nothing will stick, even by the standards of moden comics. And, there is not much else going on. There is also a very intrusive preview for "Super 8", which is a movie I am just going to skip. (Even if I could eat the promotional ice-cream treat, I would skip it on the basis of the preview.)

Batman Inc. will be taking a break come the relaunch anyway (and wont return until sometime in early 2012), so you might as well.Dominic wrote:I might chuck "Batman Inc." for this. Maybe.
The "Superman" cover? Looks closer to body armor to me. The "Action Comics" cover has him wearing street clothes.I think it is supposed to look like street clothes, hence the bulk.

Ah, wait. Yup. I was talking about "Action Comics".

Wait a minute. I've got a few tattoos. Sweet, so am I a thug or a gang member? Man, I always wanted to be a malcontent. Possibly a ne'er do well. But leaving that aside a minute.andersonh1 wrote:Tattoos must be cool and modern, because now Mr. Terrific has them too. I can almost see what you're saying here, even if the wording could maybe have been better. Michael Holt, from what we've seen of him before, doesn't seem like to sort to get all tatted up. But like, have you read the Starman comic where Jack meets the original Mr. Terrific? I wish I could find the issue right now and quote it directly, but basically Jack said to Terry that for as corny as the big "Fair Play" logo might have seemed, it took a real belief in what he was doing for him to just emblazon that on his chest there in big red letters. That kind of wild optimism, Jack thought, may have made him the best superhero of all. This was back when Robinson could write really well, so it came across better when he said it.
But anyway. Micheal Holt feel strongly enough about the "Fair Play" message that he's had it etched into his damn skin. And assuming that he's still the same character, the kind of guy that probably wouldn't get tattooed getting that message says something.
Oh, yeah. Superman's new suit. So, y'all maybe think someone at DC thought "Hey, I'll bet we can make a way worse new suit for Superman than the electric one!"? Since the Morrison book's likely to be closer to the original Superman comics, I'm hoping he might not have it in that run. Oh, how I'm hoping.

Re: Comics are awesome.
I wonder if the tattoos are a Morrison influence, (ref: "Final Crisis").
Anyway, what is this ugly rumour I hear about Costa going to DC? Is he leaving IDW? Will I have to follow him to post-FC Johns/Didio DC?
Time will tell!
