The only real difference from other events is that they don't have a centralized title to detail a main story arc for the event. But like I said, these events still have their own unique titles for the purpose of detailing changes to the status quo and/or retcons while crossing characters over to other interconnected storylines in the event. As such, I don't see enough of a difference there to warrant a separate category.Dominic wrote:But, I would also argue that the various events you listed were different enough to warrant being in their own categories.

Brightest Day #23
The world is in chaos as natural disasters across the entire planet threaten all life. Only the White Lantern's forest is safe, protected by a barrier, which also prevents the frightened citizens of Star City from getting in. The Dark Avatar rises, as the White Lantern reveals the final part of its plan to fight it. And rather than disintegrating Ronnie, we find out what the White Lantern actually wanted with Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and Firestorm. This was a great issue. I wasn't expecting the new savior to be revealed in this issue, let alone who it is, but it makes sense considering his connection to nature. And the form the Dark Avatar takes sets up for somewhat of a "ying/yang" dynamic, which works nicely given the life/death concepts the two represent. Can't wait to see how the Brightest Day will conclude in the next issue.
Avengers The Children's Crusade #5 (of 9)
Not sure if I've brought this title up before or if anyone else is following it, but basically it's about the Young Avengers finding the Scarlet Witch after House of M, yet before Civil War takes place. And of course there are others that would like to find Wanda as well. At this point in the mini-series, the Young Avengers have found her but her memories of being Scarlet Witch is gone. In this issue, Iron Lad (Kang the Conqueror as a teenager) returns from the future to help the Young Avengers in the midst of a battle between Magneto, Dr. Doom and the Avengers and try to fix things with his time travel capabilities. But of course things don't go according to plan. This is another great book. Every issue adds more to the story, so it's really interesting to see what's being set up here.

Spoiler
Alec Holland is the new protector of Earth. This is his original human body. Only his memories had become part of Swamp Thing after he died.

...I can't even decide what I think about that. That's certainly not taking the obvious approach, anyway. So Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, the Hawks, and Aquaman are the elemental heroes now, I take it?Sparky Prime wrote:Spoiler

I had a feeling it would someone relatively obscure. I mean someone like Superman would be just way too obvious.

Yeah, the White Lantern has transformed them into Elementals of Fire, Earth, Air and Water respectively. J'onn seems like a bit of a strange choice for Earth, considering the others are more closely related to the elements they represent, but as a shape-shifter, I guess J'onn works as the Earth element. I'm assuming they'll be returning to normal after Brightest Day, but I kinda hope they might retain some of these elemental powers. I think that'd be interesting.138 Scourge wrote:So Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, the Hawks, and Aquaman are the elemental heroes now, I take it?
Well it needed to be someone who represents Life itself in some significant way. Superman and most heroes might fight to save lives, but I wouldn't really say they represent life.Shockwave wrote:I had a feeling it would someone relatively obscure. Re: Comics are awesome.
Man, I typed up a long-ass post about this, as well as a couple comic reviews. and then my internet went out and ate all of it.
So I'll just say this:
So I'll just say this:
In the future of "DC: One Million", J'onn had basically become the planet Mars. So being the Earth elemental isn't without precedent.Sparky Prime wrote: J'onn seems like a bit of a strange choice for Earth, considering the others are more closely related to the elements they represent, but as a shape-shifter, I guess J'onn works as the Earth element.

Oh, right, I remember that story. OK, I can see that giving him precedent as the Earth Elemental.138 Scourge wrote:In the future of "DC: One Million", J'onn had basically become the planet Mars. So being the Earth elemental isn't without precedent.
Re: Comics are awesome.
Y'know, that's a good point and all but I'm just gonna throw something out there: Why does there have to be precedent? God forbid they should actually just do something that's never been done and oh i dunno... set precedent? It's official: Comics are cyclical and there's no point in reading them anymore.138 Scourge wrote:In the future of "DC: One Million", J'onn had basically become the planet Mars.
