Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

You mean the 09 set? He was there because the comic took place in that part of the 86 movie where Kup is telling old war stories and decides to tell about the formation of the Elite Guard. Well as we all know, Scourge was one of the Decepticons attacking them at that part (along with his Sweeps) so that's why he was in the set. I definitely think that mold works better as Scourge than any of the other versions of it. Anyway, that's what Scourge was doing in that set.

Well, it can't possibly work better for Scourge than it does for Noizemaze, the character who it was. Also it worked really nice for Ratbat, too, I thought...

Who the hell is Noizemaze? I thought it was originally Cybertron Sideways? And if I recall, that toy's coloring sucked ass. I don't recall being too fond of it's head either. I like the mold, but Sideways and Ratbat never did it for me.

Noisemaze is the Japanese name for Sideways. I default to Japanese names to. (For whatever reason, I tend to call Jolt "Hop and the green car fellah "Bullet".)

I do rather like the idea of Senator RatBat.

I default to Japanese names when the English name is reused for a particularly memorable character. Besides a (very tenuous) connection to Unicron (maybe) Cybertron Sideways has nothing to do with Armada Sideways, effectively making him...a different character, Noisemaze. (Or Noizemaze. I am way too tired and lazy to look it up today.)

Because, you know, that whole thing with Hasbro and Takara disagreeing over Galaxy Force being a continuation of Energon or not.

I knew that, but that's just the couple-page framing story of that comic, where the *real* story is Kup in the Elite Guard with all the other Botcon toys. Who Scourge just sort of came with. That's the part that bugs me: that it seems like they threw the faming story in there to justify Scourge coming with a bunch of toys that he otherwise had absolutely nothing to do with!

Honestly, I suspect the 'real' reason Scourge was in the set was because Galvatron and Scourge had come out in Universe that year, and despite the reasonably good chances of Hasbro making their own Scourge to complete the set (as they did), FunPub proved once again their complete inability to keep their figurative dick in their pants and made a "Classics/Universe" Scourge for people.

Anyway, it's just my opinion, but I really didn't think the mold fit Scourge at all. He didn't have claws or a cape, and the head didn't mesh aesthetically well with the rest of the body, and they had to compromise way too much to get that head in there anyway (it looks proportionately tiny with a humanoid face, and he barely has his headgun). Way too much blue as well, it was the wrong shade anyway, and hardly any white. I'm glad Hasbro gave us a proper Scourge this year.

Seconded! I almost wanted to get the Scourge out of that set until I got a good look at it. I like Cybertron Sideways well enough, but man, that mold's seems like such an odd choice for Scourge they may as well have repainted a Grimlock, stuck a new head on there and tried to pass it off.

Ah shit, now I sort of want that.

Of course, those Sweeps were still cheaper than the "Mass Production Type" recolour in Japan. That is something.

I'm not sure what's up with that, if they're not supposed to be windows, or if filling in each of these little things would have counted as individual paint apps (I don't know these things, JT, is that how it works?) but it's not a big issue.
The issue there isn't that each WINDOW would be an individual app, but that each part that has those little windows would require its own paint mask, and Hasbro's been very cheap lately about such things, especially on finer details. So you're essentially correct.

Glad to hear the new Scourge is as good as preview pics suggested. Now I have to actually FIND it though.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?
