Well, what with the movie coming around, I'd be surprised if a more traditional "GL Adventures" comic didn't show up to cash in. Or at least some standalone graphic novels or miniseries or whatnot.

As a matter of fact, DC's Blog announced today they will be launching a new Lantern book, but it isn't Green... It's Red.

Over his six years on the book, Geoff Johns has brought so many cool new elements to the Green Lantern mythos, one of my (and I’m sure many other fans’ favorites) being the other colors of Lantern Corps — from the Sinestro Corps War, to Rage of the Red Lanterns, Blackest Night and Brightest Day and everything in between, the introduction of the new Corps in the Green Lantern books have made for one heck of an epic story.
That said, we’re excited to announce that one of those Corps is getting their own book: RED LANTERNS, launching as an ongoing comic book series written by Peter Milligan in 2011.

I wondered if they'd been building Atrocitus up for that very reason, particularly since the Red Lanterns will be prominent in the upcoming GL tv series. I guess they are currently the most well-developed lantern corps apart from the GLs and Sinestro Corps.
I still think they've diluted the concept too much with all these different groups.

I think what they've done is enrich the concept by introducing all these new Corps personally. It's certainly brought up the popularity of the Green Lantern titles.andersonh1 wrote:I still think they've diluted the concept too much with all these different groups.

Well now, Sparky, that's not exactly the kind of thing I meant, but okay. I was thinking more along the lines of some kinda series with the Green Lanterns just being Space Cops, which I'm guessing is more of what Anderson's wishing for. Something that streamlines things down to a more manageable size, like what the movie's likely to do. Something maybe that'd be more accessible to the theoretical new readers that might be brought in by the movie. I mean, whether you like what Johns is up to on this book or no, you gotta grant, it'd be hard as hell for someone to pick up a random issue of GL right now and get into the story if they didn't know what'd been up with it before.
This is, of course, not a problem unique to Green Lantern books.
That said, I've got three thoughts on the Red Lantern book:
-Anything that gets Dex-Starr more exposure is something I can't be entirely against.
-Hey, Peter Milligan! I used to love that dude's work for Vertigo! Especially that "Enigma" series, great stuff. Glad he's still in the business, good on him!
-Maaaaaaaan. There is gonna be a LOT of vomiting in that book, isn't there?
Hey, that reminds me. I've been wondering. If the Green Lanterns are Space Cops, what do the other guys do? Do they patrol the galaxy as well and pull their own version of Space Copping? Do they just hang around their own sections of the galaxy and plot revenge or hoard treasure (I know a lil' about Larfleeze), or what? Or did they all just get started so the whole thing's new to the other Corps? Not trolling, just curious about this.

I know what you meant. I was just pointing out that it just so happened that DC announced the Red Lantern title today. And besides, Green Lantern Corps already is the 'Space Cops' book. Green Lantern is more 'Hal's adventures as a Green Lantern' which obviously doesn't always focus on his role as a space cop.138 Scourge wrote:Well now, Sparky, that's not exactly the kind of thing I meant, but okay. Some of the Corps are still developing or we have yet to learn much about so not all of their roles have been made very clear yet. From what we've seen so far though...Hey, that reminds me. Star Sapphires - Somewhat like the Green Lanterns, they've taken on a roles of protectors for the universe, but more specifically, they protect love and try to help love grow wherever they can with the idea "Love will conquer all".
Indigo Tribe - They remain the most mysterious so far but as they are powered by Compassion, they appear to want to help others. Although their methods we've seen have ranged from suffocating a critically wounded Green Lantern to simply lending their support.
Blue Lanterns - As their rings cannot fully work with out a Green Lantern nearby, they've been in a supportive role only. They're mainly still working on building up the numbers in their Corps.
Sinestro Corps - We've seen Sinestro still has a desire to protect the universe, albeit with his own methods: inducing fear of power and autority.
Orange - Larfleeze is only interested in his own greed. He only helps someone else if it's in his mutual interest.
Red Lanterns - Since they are mostly victims of something that has so enraged them, they are pretty much focused on getting revenge on those that harmed them. Although some Red Lanterns have more recently taken interest beyond their own wants for revenge, suggesting they are slowly learning how to better control their rage.

The problem is that I don't care enough about the other Green Lanterns to buy a second book.Sparky Prime wrote:I know what you meant. I get that. I like the characters in GLCorps myself, but I decided to skip Emerald Warriors because I'm just not a big fan of Guy.andersonh1 wrote:The problem is that I don't care enough about the other Green Lanterns to buy a second book.

Re: Comics are awesome.
I liked "Recharge" that started out the GLC, and I bought the first few issues of the ongoing. But it was mainly Guy at the time, and while I like the character a lot more than I did when he was a jerk with a bowl haircut, I wasn't interested enough to buy the book. I'm tempted by the trades occasionally, and I like Kyle enough now to read a book where he's the main character, but so far I just haven't been inspired to pick up the monthly. And I've skipped Emerald Warriors for the same reason you did.Sparky Prime wrote:I get that. So... on to other comics:
Brightest Day #17
As I guessed, Firestorm didn't actually destroy the universe.
And then there's Boston Brand. I have to admit, this is my favorite storyline of the issue, for the simple reason that the scenes where he discovers his grandfather is still alive are similar to my own situation. I've got a grandfather in a nursing home, who just turned 97. Sadly, in real life, my grandfather has Alzheimers and doesn't know me any more. So I enjoyed reading the story where Boston goes to find his 98 year old grandpa in the home, and the two have a reunion. At least in the comics, someone can get a happy ending.

Re: Comics are awesome.
Firestorm is supposed to appear in the next issue of Green Lantern Corps. The GL Honor Guard is also currently on Qward dealing with a Weaponer who has the White Lantern energy net from the earlier encounter between Boston and the Anti-Monitor. Looking forward to seeing how all of this will tie together.andersonh1 wrote:As I guessed, Firestorm didn't actually destroy the universe.Instead, he's in the anti-matter universe, which may finally tie the Anti-Monitor back into the storyline soon.
Also have to say I enjoyed seeing the Hawks storyline again. It's been a few issues since we last saw them. Nice to see how their storyline has started to connect with the rest of the Brightest Day plot.
Yeah, I had the same thought. But if living it up on the motorcycle charges the white ring for Boston, shouldn't sex with Dove have counted as well?
