Comics are awesome.
Re: Comics are awesome.
Oh, yeah I wasn't arguing that the stasis pods were Deus Ex Suck It, I was arguing that the whole comic sucked for trying to retconn non show characters into the show context and really I wasn't even arguing that necessarily, I was just saying that the comic sucked on general principal.

Ah, well I still wouldn't agree. "The Gathering" was a good story.

Agreed. And my opinion of "The Ascending" has gone up a bit too, to be honest.Sparky Prime wrote:Ah, well I still wouldn't agree. "The Gathering" was a good story.

I still hate it all. Someone's gotta' be consistent.
You just illustrated one of my problems with the book. How is Magmatron really any different than Megatron then? They both are tired of how slowly the Tripedicus Counsel is moving. Both want to raise armies. Both use Maximal stasis pods from the Axalon to do it. Yadda yadda yadda. There was nothing unique or different about this guy. Oh, he can give a speech. Megatron can do that 10 times better. Guy was a cookie cutter villain. Boring.Sparky Prime wrote:I don't see how it's a deux ex machina... It makes sense the Tripredacus Council would send another agent when Ravage failed to report back. And it makes sense someone like Magmatron would be more interested in his own goals, being like Megatron, tired of waiting for the Tripredacus Council to make their move and needing his own loyal army of Predacons to that end. Beast Wars already had this set up for them.Shockwave wrote:Yeah, the stasis podsThe whole thing was really one big ball of Deus Ex Suck It.

Keep in mind, Megatron had no way of knowing the Maximals would send an exploration ship like the Axalon, full of stasis pods, after them. Being able to convert those protoforms into Predacons was more of a bonus to Megatron plans. Remember, his original plans only involved gathering enough energon to re-start the war and then presumably rally the Predacons to his cause once he returned to Cybertron. Or plan B, to change history as per G1 Megatron's plans on the Golden Disk.Mako Crab wrote:You just illustrated one of my problems with the book. Magmatron on the other hand was already pretty high up in the Predacon command structure and apparently had access to all the resources he needed, save for the loyal troops to support his own cause. Which made the Axalon's forgotten stasis pods the perfect target. With the cover of going to capture Megatron, he could quickly and quietly get the loyal troops he needed to overthrow the Tripredacus Council and then lead the Predacons into war against the Maximals.
So yeah, I see two very different bad guys with their own unique plans here.
Re: Comics are awesome.
But remember why Megatron needed all that energon. He too was lacking in troops on Cybertron. With enough energon, he could rally Preds to fight at his side. It's true that he didn't plan on their being any Maximal stasis pods to reprogram into Preds. Just another example of how Megatron takes an unforseen development and turns it to his advantage. Makes him that much cooler.Sparky Prime wrote: Keep in mind, Megatron had no way of knowing the Maximals would send an exploration ship like the Axalon, full of stasis pods, after them. Magmatron, on the other hand, knew of the stasis pods prior to leaving. How he knew, I don't know. And how he knew they'd all be in stasis still, I don't know. He's gifted.

Megatron was taking some pretty big gambles. There was no guarantee he'd be able to rally the Predacons back on Cybertron to follow him just because he had energon.Mako Crab wrote:But remember why Megatron needed all that energon. Ravage reported to Magmatron shortly after he arrived at Earth. He scanned the planet and gave Magmatron the information he needed on the stasis pods. And how is resorting to capturing Megatron not adapting well? Things hadn't gone according to plan so he decided to cut his losses. It was the smart thing to do given the circumstances.Magmatron, on the other hand, knew of the stasis pods prior to leaving. How he knew, I don't know. Plan B was to run off and grab Megatron (and inject some of his awesomeness into the comic!!) before the Counsel started checking their watches. You know, they don't like Junior to be out too late.

Megatron proved on many occasions that he was indeed a risk taker willing to do anything to insure a Decepticon or Predacon victory. Guy's got titanium balls.Sparky Prime wrote: Megatron was taking some pretty big gambles. Or he could, you know, go rogue like Megatron and rebel against the Tripedicus, since that's what he was pretty much doing anyway.Ravage reported to Magmatron shortly after he arrived at Earth. And I hate Ravage's appearance in this comic. I forget, how did they even find his remains? And I love that they don't even show his first meeting with Magmatron upon reactivation. There was a missed opportunity there.

It is still possible Magmatron was planning on going ahead with his rebellion, but first they had to deal with Razorbeast. And in the meantime, he needed to keep the Tripredacus Council from suspecting he was up to anything or it could ruin his plans before he could even launch his rebellion.Mako Crab wrote:Or he could, you know, go rogue like Megatron and rebel against the Tripedicus, since that's what he was pretty much doing anyway
I thought Ravage's appearance was a nice touch personally. He's an interesting choice for Magmatron to select as a commander to deal with the Maximals while Magmatron took care of other concerns. And I hate Ravage's appearance in this comic. They don't actually show Magmatron finding Ravage's remains... He pretty much just leaves and comes back with Ravage's torso and spark in hand. Magmatron probably just used his 3 beast modes to search the area. And Ravage has been through enough in billions of years of war, I doubt he was phased that much by the experience and Magmatron would have likely just briefed him on what he needed to know. I don't see what's to miss there..
