Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
Bammo. You nailed it Trekkie. A complicated transform is one thing. But, a transform that requires lining up a bunch of pieces that are not rooted to anything is another. The most infamous examples of this being BW Neo Mach-Kick or Bazooka.
Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
Y'know, now that I think about it, I'm actually really surprised that we got Straxus, Thunderwing and Skullgrin before getting proper "Classics" style Shockwave or Soundwave. I don't really object, just making the observation.
Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
As much as I want a Shockwave, I am not planning on it, especially in G1 style.

Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
Hasbro tends to shy away from figures we're getting recent doubles of. WfC Soundwave is the likely culprit for no Soundwave in this bunch, and Shockwave might have gotten the pass due to size restrictions (Not really a limit when you consider Grapple or Seaspray) but also because we're likely to get a really hugeass toy of him for DATM. Hopefully it'll be suitably kickass and *won't* have any stupid green on him.

Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
I honestly think WfC Soundwave works fine if you need a Soundwave hanging out with your Classics crew. Yeah, he doesn't turn into a cassette deck, but the chances of Hasbro releasing one that does are slim to none. Of course, I would've said the same thing about a new Ravage that turns into a cassette, and look how that turned out.
Shockwave is pretty much the last guy that needs a Classics-style figure, and then every Decepticon leader will have gotten a new toy in the last few years.

I've actually been using the music label one which is in scale with Classics (he stands just as tall as the seekers). It can't hold Classics Ravage but hey...
Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
Also review time! Nabbed RTS Jazz and Tracks.
Packaging: I really don't think Reveal The Shield is the best context to put these guys in. I mean I could see the whole rubsign thing working for the movie repaints where you're not really sure who is what (or wouldn't be without something on the packaging) but to make these guys who are so obviously Autobots part of this line just seems wierd. Especially since the packaging does actually have the Autobot logo on it, it just takes the guesswork out of something that's gimmick IS guesswork. /rant.
Jazz: Vehicle mode is very reminiscent of his original G1 incarnation albeit an updated design. Paint apps seem pretty good, my only gripe stems from the packaging gimmick, if there wasn't a rubsign, we could have gotten a solid logo on the hood. But if that's my only gripe it's not doing too bad.
Transform: Jazz's transform is a more complex version of the original. Nothing too fancy, but not too simple either. I do wish that the chest would lock down but it doesn't really move very much so it's not an issue.
Bot mode: Again, he resembles the G1 counterpart. This version has speakers on the car door windows that can deploy for... blasting Decepticons with the collected works of Madonna I guess. The gun has some sort of shortening transform but I have yet to figure what the purpose of this is.
All in all I think it's a great figure and a prime example of what Transfans have come to expect out of the Classics/Generations etc line.
Tracks: Vehicle mode is a blue... something corvetteish. Again, it's an updated version of the original. It's a car, it rolls not much more to say on that.
Transform: The legs work very much like the original, the torso has some sort of auto transform feature that makes that pretty easy. Now, if I had to assign one word that would describe transforming the back it would be this: FUCK!!! This has got to be the worst fucking convoluted design EVAR!!! The wings just get in the fucking way of everything!
Bot mode: Again updated version of the original. Looks and moves pretty well in this mode but I'm not sure the end result justifies the frustration of the transformation.
Shockwave
-I hope Tracks likes bot mode cause he's not going back.

Hah! Wow, Tracks sounds like he'll be fun when he shows up.
And about that guy, am I the only one that finds the flames on his hood to be just godawful? I'm seriously considering the reprolabel thing for him. It'd effectively double the price of the toy, but it'd immeasurably improve the vehicle mode's look.
EDIT: As for a Classics Soundwave, I could get behind that if it's better than Classics Megatron. For now, I'm happy just using my Reissue Soundwave as a stand-in.

Shock, do you have any Repro-labels? You could always use one of those. That is what I am planning to do with both Jazz and Tracks....assuming I ever find the damned toys.
So, Tracks is that much fun huh?

Re: Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread
That's right, I DO have reprolabels! Good call.
Also, you automatically win the race on account of the fact that you actually get to your customizing. I have a custom Alts Bumblebee that I've been "working on" for like 5 years now and a fiber optic Enterprise D that I've been "building" for like 8 years. Not to mention my efforts with Dispensor.
