BotCon 2010 box set reviewed

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!
Generation 1, Generation 2 - Removable fists? Check. Unlicensed vehicle modes? Check. Kickass tape deck robot with transforming cassette minions? DOUBLE CHECK!!!

Have you considered doing the same with Clench's head? There is just as much customizing potential there. A pre-McGuffin colours Clench would be very nice indeed. Plus, I am seriously considering upping my customizing ante and working on WH40K Transformers. Clench would make a fantastic Chaos Marine tank. And, many of the appropriate colour schemes have not been applied to that mould.

Yes I actually have considered it. In fact, I plan to make molds of all of the custom heads, so getting Clench's head in the appropriate color shouldn't be a problem.

I would likely skip Skybite. At mass retail, the mould might be enough to sell me on Pyro.

I would buy at least 2 of Breakdown at mass retail.
Damn, a C grade for a $300 toy set that normally would be $75 of toy, that must be a goddamned great set.

That will haunt you the rest of your life. Enjoy your woefully-overpriced hot-pink gimmick-neutered garbage as you desperately try to jam it onto your crotch.

Clench and Pyro look pretty good as far as that goes, and Breakdown's heart is definitely in the right place, but then, like...the hell, Sky-Byte? And with Streetstar, why go with the blandest of the G2 Protectobots if that's what you're trying to do.
The theme was G2 rarities, Breakdown was the first Botcon exclusive, Streetstarwise was never released, Clench and Pyro were European, and Sky-byte... um, I have no idea WTF. Laziness?

I'd actually give it a B. At least. I'm pretty happy with the whole thing except for Pyro's looseness and Clench's nuetered electronics. And actually even with that, I've tightened Spark's screws and if I really needed light and sound clench I could probably gut an onslaught. I suspect that Skybyte was a sort of preview of things to come. Since next year is the 10th anniversary of RID (over here anyway) and this year is the 10th anniversary of Car Robots/TF2000 and they're doing Side Burn next year. I suspect some of next year's exclusives will continue the RID redux.

Oh shit! I didn't even think. Are they gonna do my idea?! Red Alert as Mach Alert, Ironhide as X-Brawn?!

Between you and me, I sincerely hope so. I'm very much looking forward to next year's Hot Rod repaint as Side Burn and I could very easily see this being the theme for next year's convention set.

Oh shit, I think you guys are onto something here.

Anyway, my biggest problem with this set was actually Pyro. Why the hell didn't they remold his head! Clench and Pyro absolutely have to have their particular heads: they were the basis for the G2 faction symbols! And on top of that, Pyro's whole *thing* is that he looks a lot like Optimus Prime. How did they mess this up?

Prowl, you realize you are asking this about THE SAME PEOPLE WHO SPENT MONEY TO RETOOL A NEW HEAD FOR SG BLURR IN 2008....DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE BASE FIGURE THEY WERE USING WAS IN FACT BLURR AND THAT THERE WERE OTHER FIGURES IN THE SG SET THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREATLY IMPROVED FOR HAVING A NEW HEAD INSTEAD OF BEING STRAIGHT UP REPAINTS?

Sorry. I just wanted to make sure we all understood the problem with Prowl's question.

And the only reason they used that mould for SG Blurr in the first place...was because he already had a head moulded for him!
