Mentioned it vaguely in the other thread, but found more specific info now. From the Wiki:
TFWiki wrote:In recent years, toys based on the Bluestreak character were renamed "Silverstreak" for trademark reasons, because a company named Gendron currently holds the trademark for "Toledo 'Blue Streak'" in the "toys" category.
BWprowl wrote:The internet having this many different words to describe nerdy folks is akin to the whole eskimos/ice situation, I would presume.
People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Oh. Well I did say that I wasn't sure about that. I like using the Martin Lawrence explanation because I just generally hate Martin Lawrence. Knowing this now, Gendron has now made the list!! I still flat out refuse to call him anything other than Bluestreak.

I do the same thing with Grimlock's triceratops buddy. The stegosaurus is Snarl, the flame-throwing triceratops is Slag. I honestly don't care if the name makes him sound like he's some sort of filthy whore, that's just how it is.

I do think they own the rights to Slag still though. I don't know whey the don't just use something similar but slightly different? Like if that other company has rights to Bluestreak, they could use Blue Streak or vice versa.

That's not "different" enough. I dunno. I suspect they're only using Silverstreak because it's the best they could get at the time (Hasbro was pretty adamant about not copping out with the "Autobot [x]" names early on in the reissues. See: Meister instead of Jazz. Also they had this big thing where they outright refused to do that in the mainline.) and they still have it.

Yeah, like Snarl.

Agent Meister kind of worked for Jazz though. I admit to actually taking to that name pretty easily.

I think we accepted Meister because it was his Japanese name so it wasn't really that different. Snarl/Slag doesn't bother me too much (although I still call him Slag too), but Bluestreak just irks me to no frakkin' end.

I always call all of them by their original names. So yeah, they're still Bluestreak, Jazz, Hot Rod, Slag and Octane as far as I'm concerned. I notice the Insecticons got renamed, but I still call them Kickback, Shrapnel and Bombshell.

Slag's renaming is particularly annoying since there's already a dinobot named Snarl.

Yeah, exactly. What're we supposed to call the stegosaurus? Slash? Slice? Sabrina?
