I see exactly what's wrong. Unless he created the character of Dinobot or wrote any of the BW show then he has absolutely NO right to claim "Full" credit for anything and that makes him an incredible douchebag!

Goddammit. Every time I start to hate "Beast Wars" less, something like this happens.

Seriously. I fucking hate that franchise, despite liking it when it first came out. The only things worse than BW is "Kiss Play". i would rather read "Stan Lee writes Transformers" than BW anything. If I were home, I would be smashing all of my damned BW toys. I regret the fucking Megatron that I bought and customized to be holding the Golden Disk more than ever now. I regret buying those stupid disks.

This actualy annoys me more than Swipe-gate.
Walky's campaign seemed to work out okay. The next several strips are gonna be insufferable "Yay Choppaface!" shit aren't they?
Yeah, and not long after the friggin' strip got readable again. This is gonna be the biggest boost his naut-istic ego had since his mother told him he was the smartest most handsome boy in the class.
I called that he would try to take credit for the win, but I honestly did not expect THE FIRST THING HE SAID after the win to be 'I take full credit'. That and these shitty, shitty SG Ravage Botcon strips has me pretty close to burning down Ohio.
To be fair though, Willis can take credit for the win. When it comes to triviality and motivating fan-bases, the man has a gift. He organized an effective effort to get Dinobot in their. If he did this for things that really mattered, he would be a fantastic political lobbyist.

Of course, he is still an insufferable ego-maniacal twit who still appears to be compensating for childhood insecurities. But, yeah, he moved world of the fandom.

Does anyone have the numbers broken down? What is the spread.
Y'see what's wrong with this picture?! I should be ecstatic about this, but one annoying attention whore is ruining the whole thing for me! I think I liked fandom back before we all had screen names and expected recognition.
The problem is the attitude of guys like Willis and Sipher.

DVD has a recognizable brand. And, he is one of the nicest and most down to earth guys I have met online. (Seriously. I have written to him about things not involving toys, and his answers are useful and insightful.) Benson Yee, for all of the criticism some (myself included) have heaped on him, is a hell of a guy. He is one of the most gracious people you will ever meet. Raksha, even with all her kayfabe and partisanship, is actually very approachable. BZ, (nominally a member here), is also a pretty nice (if incredibly sophmoric) guy.

Don Figueroa was a known fan who made good. And, bully for him. He worked hard and earned every bit of the professional credit he has.

Willis and co however revel in teh fame. In wrestling terms, BZ and Raksha are textbook heels. They have wild and outsized personalities "in the ring", but are actually good people at heart. Guys like Willis and Sipher want to be the great and the good in the fandom, and they totally let it go to their heads, like some of the more famous "babies". (The stereotypes are not 100% consistent of course. But, I have done enough research and observation to say that there is some truth to them.)

Sorry for all the wrestling references. But, I saw Matt "Doink" Borne wrestle this weekend, (along with 2 of my absolute favorite local wrestlers), and am still riding that high. I squeed. Several times.
So who is Willis, and what exactly has he done? I've seen some of you discussing him, but I have to admit I have no idea who he is.
You do not know who David Willis is? You do not know the great Walky?
You lucky, lucky, man you.
(Seriously, the idiotic amount of love BW seems to get almost fifteen years after the fact is really starting to piss me off. I'm convinced BM was a better show at this point.)
Yeah, and most obsessive fans in that age bracket are just GeeWunners. Read into this what you will.

Eh. I mean, I liked the character in the show and everything, but going by the original toy...that mold is easily my least favorite Transformer ever. That biases me against him something fierce.
The Hall of Fame was about characters, not toys. Otherwise, would BB have really warranted a place in it?

There's numbers? I wasn't made aware of any numbers. Just a big DINOBOT WINS banner. I don't even know who was second, or by how much Dinobot won.

He wrestled a show down here recently, too, for the company my friend shoots video for. (This is the same friend who's editing my Generator video as we speak.)

And that's saying something. In fact, I wonder if all the concentrated "Let's not vote for Soundwave just because he's Soundwave votes," if those had gone to Soundwave, would they have gone elsewhere? Dinobot winning, to me, feels kind of like Ross Perot winning the 1996 election. (That was in every way intentional.)

I suspect a plurality may have been at play here. When the weakest over-all candidate is Shockwave, that is saying something. The vote would be pretty well split to begin with, just by virtue of the characters on the list. Now, add in the division between G1 and BW fans. Trukk or Munky? When the Trukk party ticket is split 4 ways, Munky is going to win.

I suspect it's just an onslaught (ohoho!) of cruddy stuff. I'll admit I'm really glad there aren't any super-overt BW fans here that are just 'joyous' about it, though. (Prowl's different! I consider him an Energon fan more than anything.)

I really hate to be a dingus about this sort of thing. I really do.

I am not normally one of those "I hate that part of the hobby" type of fans.

And, the last thing I would say is that "only GeeWun should be in teh Haul of teh Famous Robots".

And, BW did save the franchise. There is no getting around that fact. But, the beast-era gets such absurd amounts of fan-love, despite having produced nothing good since if formally ended ~a decade ago, that I am sick of hearing about it and how glorious it is. That fact that Dinobot was picked by a cadre of the most vocal and insular fans just irks me.

I really do not want us to become one of "those" fandoms.

Read post #5. Dinobot won Chicago/Boston style.

Dom

Well thanks for that. God, I really do love Beast Wars too. It's one of my favorite cartoons of all time (and the fact is I tend to lump it in with BM and judge them together), and I really love a lot of the toys (especially the Transmetals and Fuzors). But I'll admit that I'm the only really big BW fan I've met in years that I can actually stand. And when today's BW fans are out there defending dreck like 'The Ascending', I have to wonder how much love they really have for the series when they're going out of their way to praise something that just shits all over it. I think that's one of the things I'm happy about with this Dinobot thing: At least we're honoring one of the *good* parts of Beast Wars. It could've been worse, they could've nominated Shokaract or Razorbeast for the Hall of Fame.

I'd still like to see Optimus Primal and BW Megatron get in later though.

Eff it, I'm voting for Kicker and Ironhide next year!

Ehh. Even as a kid, I found Dinobot cliche and shitty. One episode he's with the Predacons, the next he's with the Maximals, but he's not really with them because Maximals don't understand him, and blah blah. Pick a side and fight already! Jackass.

Eh, he didn't switch sides that much. He quit the Predacons in the first episode, then was more or less loyal to the Maximals all the way until 'Maximal no More', which came only a couple eps before he died. People like to exaggerate his flip-floppiness, but it wasn't really that bad.

Of course, I have a weakness for side-changers in general, so.
