New Drift TPB
Re: New Drift TPB
That BB series was painfully bad. Unless the next issue of ongoing it fantastic, I am dropping the series by May. (I have one or two more issues I am obligated to buy.)
Megatron will be coming back soon.

And Wreckers! Don't forget Wreckers! I mean, you've probably got every issue that's out so far by now, but still.
Re: New Drift TPB
True. I suppose it is better to say I am now avoiding the main on-going title.
Given that the franchise is 25+ years old, and I already have some small gaps in my collection, (mostly 3H and Master Collector content), the idea of skipping a mass release TF comic is less radical to me now than it was even 5 years back.

Re: New Drift TPB
Drift #1
Spoilers, so don't read if you want to read the issue first!
Back in the days when Drift was still Deadlock, murderous and headstrong Decepticon, he went against orders and attacked a unit under Sunstreaker. And then just for good measure, he killed his more-honest-than-him subordinate who was going to report him. His stated motivation is "winning the war" rather than personal aggrandizement, but that doesn't really excuse anything he does. He tries to overthrow Turmoil and is forced to go on the run. For those who don't like the slower pace of the ongoing series, there's no hint of that here. Things happen fast, and characters act decisively.
Then things get a little more complicated about halfway through the issue. Deadlock's escape pod crashes, and he encounters an individual named Wing who is trying to free some slaves. He ostensibly works with him in order to commandeer a ship and escape. The twist is that the other individual is also a Cybertronian, who isn't familiar with Autobots, and who has the appearance that Deadlock will later have as Drift. I'm guessing Drift will assume Wing's identity at some point, but that remains to be seen. It's here that Deadlock leaves that name behind and names himself Drift. And he almost gets himself killed trying to steal a ship before all the opposition has been subdued.
He wakes up among other Transformers who have rebuilt him and saved his life. And finds himself in their home, the new Crystal City.
So, that's a lot of plot summary and very little analysis. A lot happens in a short time, and we learn a lot about the character. He's a typical Decepticon in that he's ruthless and more than willing to kill and assassinate superiors if need be. On the other hand, he's interested in the big picture of winning the war, not just his own personal interests. The fact that Wing looks like Drift is odd, and probably significant. And we get our first glimpse of the third faction, who seem to have built a society away from the warring Autobots and Decepticons. It's a good first issue.

Re: New Drift TPB
Throwing Sunstreaker into the mix is interesting.
I'm glad these characters are named, too. My big issue with Spotlight: Cliffjumper wasn't that there was a cadre of new Decepticons (who looked kind of badass, also) but that they didn't have names or defined personalities.

My biggest problem with "Spotlight: Cliffjumper" is that it was a paint by numbers story.

Terradive is in a panel! That made me happy! In fact, a lot of the random guys that show up as extras in this have a definite G2 vibe to their look.
I rather like the way Milne draws the standard G2 Decepticon 'lightpiping face'. It's like the robot is wearing a helmet/mask sorta thing, and you can see his real face through the lightpiping/visor section. It's a cool take on a design I've always been pretty keen on.
