Generations - Thrust, Drift, War for Cybertron figs

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Generations - Thrust, Drift, War for Cybertron figs

Post by JediTricks »

I guess Classics 3.0 "Generations" is really going across all boundaries.

Classics Thrust is finally getting a retail release. Guess that makes up for the frustration of the exclusive.

At the cons last year, Hasbro said Drift was in the movie line, but looking at what they did with the figure, it seems like it never was meant to be. Then again, the new movie voyager Seaspray looks so little like movie it's hard to understand why it's there. So, Drifty McCool has 3 swords that he can draw and not use. And blocky, G1 - meets - comic styling.

War for Cybertron figs at Toy Fair seemed heavy on the shellmastery, but had some appeal. Bumblebee looks very Tron-esque, and in my book that's a good thing.

Generations packaging definitely isn't challenging any new ground.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Thrust does not make up for anything. There is still no common Dirge, nor any easy way to get a Thundercracker.

I will buy Thrust, but will complain about my cake with every bite.

See, I kinda like having the Seekers be all different types of bodies in my display. Mine are currently made up of Classics Skywarp, Classics Ramjet, Universe Starscream, Universe Acid Storm, Universe Dirge, and Titanium Sunstorm. And then I'm going to get this Generations Thrust, and then either track down a Titanium Thundercracker, or get someone to make me a Classics ActionMaster Thundercracker to round the group out. I dunno, I guess I just like the idea of the Seekers as a more varied crew.

I'm glad to see Thrust coming out at retail. I've got the other five jets as either Classics/Universe or G1 Commemmorative series. And a few Titaniums. Thrust is the only one I have no version of, so that'll be a must-buy.

So when do we get Dirge and Thundercracker?

Never Anderson. Never ever.

Prowl, send me the specs for what you want, and the parts needed.

I do not mind the jets looking different from their '85 models. But, I want them to be consistently different/similar. For example, in Japan it was possible to get the 3 F15s and Ramjet in G1 looking schemes....and then Dirge and Thrust came out in crazy new colors. (Those would have gone nicely with US Starscream and Ramjet of course. But, you are still screwed with Skywarp and Thundercracker looking like the '84 models.)

Looking at the upcoming Thrust figure, it looks like I still have to get a BC07 Thurst (to say nothing of Dirge). Look at the wings. I will have a nicely '85 Ramjet (from Japan), with a nicely '09 Thrust....... I should have saved my '07 Ramjet.

On the other hand, I can see wanting differing body types, (which I am going for in a custom project that I have barely posted pics of), in some cases. But, there is no reason that Hasbro cannot just release a consistent set of these damned things.

I suspect they'll just hold those back for when they need collectors to come back again to the line, every 6 months to a year. :p

Nuts to that. You'll get 'em, sooner rather than later I suspect. My worry at this point is that the mold is going to crumble from so many re-uses. Seems to have held up well so far, but many molds disintegrate after 2 or 3 passes.
I disappear.

Even if Thundercracker and Dirge are out by this summer, that is still 4 years. ("Classics" Skywarp being the start point), to get all of the planes.....across 3 different lines. And, that assumes that they have proper color schemes.

I just want one set of the characters, (other than the terrible G1 molds), in one consistent aesthetic. Am I asking fo too much? (Well, clearly, yes, I am. But....)

The Henkei versions of Thrust and Dirge are close enough to G1 to me that I think they look consistent with the other Japanese editions. This is especially true if you use rubbing alcohol to remove the unwanted paint and then decorate them with stickers from Reprolabels. I think Dirge's wings in particular make him look way more like G1 Dirge than his Botcon incarnation which was a straight repaint of Ramjet.

Either way, I'll probably get Thrust when he comes out.

Well, yeah, if you do all that, the Henkei variants are perfect. If do all all that paint removal and sticker applications, they are passable. (Mind you, the rest of the jets will not have stickers, while Thrust and Dirge would.....) The fact that Henkei Dirge has retro-molded wings only adds insult to a series of injuries.

Joking aside, I am not going to give points to Hasbro/Tomy for making toys that I can easily customize. There is nothing wrong with customizing. But, I should not have to customize to get certain figures.

The fact that all it takes is rubbing alchohol to remove the paint is another problem. I remember when it took more to remove factory paint. Hasbro seems to work from a similar selection of colors as Games Workshop. But, no, I have to wonder if they are using Games Workshop's water-based paint. GW paints hold up as well as, if not better than, some of Hasbro's more recent paint work.

Dom
-planning to get serveral Thrust figures.
