Last Stand of the Wreckers discussion

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Last Stand of the Wreckers

Post by andersonh1 »

The issue is due out on Wednesday of this week, and a preview is available.

Brutal stuff, and some characters I'm barely familiar with. Overlord is a European release, correct? And possibly Skyquake as well? Looks like we're actually seeing one of the galaxy-wide attacks that Megatron talked about in AHM. I just hope Fort Max fares better than he did in G2.

Overlord is a Japanese-exclusive actually. From Masterforce.

Simply too little to judge it on at this point, but am I the only one getting a heavy G2 vibe from this? In a good way. These opening pages are entertaining, if nothing else. For now, my one complaint is that the art's a little hard to read in places, though that maybe it'll be easier when I have the book in my hands. Looking forward to this, definitely.

The rampant slaughter of Transformers and the brutal beating of Fortress Maximus both happened in G2, so you're not the only one getting that vibe, no.

No, he was also released in Europe alongside Skyquake and the like. Speaking of...

Literal words:

"SKYQUAKE FUCK YES FUCK YES SKYQUAKE FUCK YES...!! FUCK HE'S DEAD!"

I'm not especially pissy about it, though, because as sucky as that is, we do get Overlord out of the deal--and it's still Nick Roche writing Kup and the Wreckers. I hate Megs Origin because it sucks for different reasons, not because Clench dies in it stupidly.
For now, my one complaint is that the art's a little hard to read in places, though that maybe it'll be easier when I have the book in my hands. Looking forward to this, definitely.
It's hard to read because these are shitty quality scans. I think that's the tactic now--readable but you definitely want to buy it.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Nick Roche art? And Kup's in it again, you say?

Yes, I'll be following this one.

Same here. I just picked it up after work since I couldn't make it to the comic shop at lunch... next time, I'll wait a day. Traffic on that side of town at 5:30 is appalling.

Edit: Ok, since many of the characters are unfamiliar to me, I'm making a list here for my own benefit.

Kick-Off: Autobot Action Master, whose situation in the book resembles his bio. Nice touch.
Overlord: Decepticon, Japanese and European G1 character
Skyquake: another late G1 character, head of the Decepticon Predator team
Ironfist: Autobot who loves weapons, 1993
Guzzle: I remember him, G1 Sparkabot
Rotorstorm: Autobot Turbomaster, bio makes him out to be pretty tough
Pyro: seems to be more of a G2 bot, and tfu.info lists him as "Autobot leader". Probably why he looks like Prime.
Snare: Decepticon, Predator surveillance specialist
Impactor: comics only character, leader of the Wreckers in Marvel comics continuity

Gotta get the roster straight, since the early 90s are an unfamiliar area to me.

Also scored it. Damn right, this is some Transformer comic goodness right here.

Also, lemme correct myself. That was Rotorstorm, not Whirl. Well, Wreckers, blue helicopter, cockpit chest, it's not that ridiculous a mistake. Plus, I just looked at two panels before buying this thing, so yeah.

Picked it up this morning as soon as the shop opened. Yeah, I was excited. Tidbits for now:

Verity got hot! Robot arms!
Pyro! Sweet!
The Wreckers ALWAYS slow-motion movie-walk into a comic. Always.
I love Topspin and Twintwist.
Overlord is scary as hell and he is making Kick-Off scare me.
Oh sweet Jesus it is Impactor.
I look forward to more Autopedia articles in the backs of the issues.
