All Hail Megatron Discussion thread

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Umm... not really. Every police officer I've ever talked to about their dogs has always acknowledged them as a member of the team or as their partner, not a piece of equipment.

The offivers themselbes might. treat the dogs as such, but if the dogs are listed as equipment on records....

Remember, the dog offocers are likely self-selecting because they like animals. But, institutionally, the dogs need not be seen as partners. Look at horse racing.

I also wonder if their might be a distinction between how working animals are treated compared to exhibitionary animals, like racing horses

I haven't read it yet because my comic shop didn't get it in, and...well, I'm waiting for scans to turn up. Giving IDW my money to show that I support AHM-related material, at this point, is definitely a futile effort considering they've already decided to change direction 'again' and go with Figeroa's new horrible art.

Seriously. I hate that art. It is bad enough to make me decide not to pick up the ongoing book. I'll take Don's overrated but at least decent-looking old art any day, now.

As Shockwave said, it's hardly a new development. Dogs in any service have been generally considered to be part of the team or partners for as long as I can remember.

It doesn't matter what they are listed as on records. That has nothing to do with how the animals are treated by the humans they work with (and they certainly get better treatment than race horses). There was actually a story here last year where a police dog died after accidentally being left in a hot car for too long. The dogs partner and his family that the dog lived with were understandably very upset over it, but many other officers whom had worked with the K-9 unit said they where also very sadden by the loss. The dog was even given a FULL police funeral. Goes to show how must respect the K-9's actually do get. The dog's partner was later arrested and charged with negligence, but because it was an accident he was not charged with animal cruelty.

I forget, how did we get onto this topic...??
AI see no point to characters that cannot be used to convey an idea. Putting special priority on characters over ideas is giving fictional constructs equal, or even higher, status than real people actually/should have.
It's not that character's can't be used to convey an "idea", it's how they are used to convey that "idea". Forcing characters to fit some model to conform to that "idea" betrays who those characters are (among other things). It's the "idea" that needs to conform to what's been established already to give the story flow.

For me, Don Figueroa being on the new ongoing comic is the only reason I'm giving it a chance. AHM really killed my interest in TF comics, so I'm glad to see a new change of pace already. I'll admit, his new style takes some getting used to but I've grown to like it myself.

-Still planning on writing comments on AHM #15. Birthday kinda threw me off a bit.

A discussion about destroying ones' own troops when bored during off-time.

And here we come to the fundamental issue we've always had--I'm *okay* with AHM bending a few continuity bits here and there to tell the story it wants to tell, because I think that story is really good.

I haven't. Every time I look at it, it actually gets 'worse.' It wouldn't bother me so much if it were occuring in a *new* universe--I'd kind of accept it if this were the way an all-new TF series looked--but as a continuation of G1, this is what I've always feared would happen since...late 2006. That eventually, all TF would look like the Movie TFs, instead of the full rubber-metally movey faced TFs we've grown to love over the last 25 years.

Eh, I rather like Don's new art myself, ever since we first got a look at it back in AHM 13. It borrows from the movie style, but keeps enough of the regular designs that they're still recognizable. I dunno, maybe it's because I have a really short attention span for such things, but I don't like it when the style of something stagnates and stays the same for too long. This was one of the main reasons I love Animated so much.

Really, man? Look at those faces, ugh. And this is supposed to be the same universe!

Looks okay from where I'm at. The snarls on a few of their faces is a bit much, but it'll do. Like Prowl said, it is a lil' something different, and the faces don't look too offensively bad.

Yeah, that picture actually just made me like the art *more*. I think one thing is that they look a lot more robotic than usual. And you know me, I prefer my TFs to look more like robots, rather than overtly humanized.

Beast Machines was supposed to be the same universe as Beast Wars, and the art styles there differed radically. Still worked.

That's fine for you and your own personal opinions/tastes, but that doesn't excuse McCarthy's poor writing and regard for continuity. Really, on a few occasions it seems like he went out of his way to contradict the established continuity (such as with the Matrix).

That kinda depends on the artist. E.J. Su for example, at times, would draw more detail for the Transformers mouths to given a sense that there was a mechanical component to their movement rather than "rubber-metally movey" faces. Don Figueroa has always been one for attention to detail. I think that's what he's doing with this new style of his. Giving the Transformers more detail, as inspired by the look of the movie Transformers. But like BWprowl said, they're still recognizable as being the original IDW designs. And again, I like it.

My thoughts on AHM #15-
Kup - Roche gets it right. This is how Transformers should be written. He blends ideas/concepts from previous (and future given the timeline of events at work here) stories and adds in his own ideas to make one comprehensive story all with out screwing up any of the continuity and telling a good story at the same time. Very interesting idea of using Pretender technology as a way to revive Kup in body and mind. A bit ironic as well, given the same technology gave two Decepticons a mental breakdown. I also really liked the explanation of the "cy-gar" being necessary to suppress flashbacks to the planet and keep him stable after becoming addicted to the energy from the crystals on that planet (also makes for a nice twist with cigars being addicting). And we get to see a bit of the darker side of Prowl, which could lead to some potentially interesting developments.

Perceptor - As I said before, this story was what I feared it would be. Perceptor becomes a sniper not because he "got hurt, and now he's different", rather it's because he feels he owes it to the guys that saved his life in battle to be able to help them in battle. What's more is he makes the modifications to himself by himself so it isn't like he isn't able to do science anymore. He clearly still has his science skills but this further complicates why he refuses to use those skills to help Ratchet save Optimus in AHM. He owes it to his comrades to use his skills to make himself a better fighter but not to help save their leader? How is that supposed to make any sense?

And why are Bludgeon and Monstructor in this story? Bludgeon we last saw under Jhiaxus' remote control to act as guardian on the Autobot's prison planet, Garrus-9, but he was deactivated when Jhiaxus was forced to flee. Presumably, the Autobots would have simply reimprisoned Bludgeon. Monstructor was taken out of Garrus-9's prison by Banzai-Tron's Secret Service but later stolen and also put under Jhiaxus' remote control as a guardian on the planet Rotan. Again, presumably once Jhiaxus was forced to flee, Banzai-Tron's team would have simply taken him back to finish backwards engineering the combiner technology to use on the Constructicons.
