Transformers Kingdom

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Honestly, really disappointed by this Grimlock. The new head is nice, but the paintjob is terrible. It's also a little odd they say Grimlock is "Beast Wars: Uprising-inspired" in the description. That version of Grimlock was based on the original Beast Wars toyline version of Grimlock in the first place... Mirage is alright. Apparently a retool of Siege Mirage to change his Cybertronian race car parts into Earth race car parts... So nothing special if you ask me, when that figure already looked like an F1 racer.
Wow, Grimlock looks... terrible. They didn't even match the head colors to the chest panel colors, which is especially lazy since they're supposed to look like a single piece instead of three.

Not the best pictures... But I figured I'd share the results of my repaints of several Kingdom figures.

Cheetor with the 3rd party guns I got him. Repainted the blue on him and added gold to his head, arms, and legs. Also kinda hard to see, but I painted the detail inside his beast mode shoulders.
Image

Optimus, painted his feet, crotch arm cannons and shoulder cannons (which I forgot to fold out to show). Also painted the ball joints in his hips red.
Image

Rattrap, filled in some of the gaps on his arms and legs, and repainted nearly all of his robot mode parts to favor the overall look of the robot mode.
Image

Dinobot I filled in the gaps on his knee guards, and repainted nearly everything... I based this largely on another custom I saw, which I thought did a pretty good job of balancing the look of both modes.

Group shot.

Those are solid. (I hate the Dinobot mold on principle. But, you made it look good.)

Tempted to steal your ideas for Rattrap.

Another Amazon exclusive 2 pack has been announced, Sideswipe & Maximal Skywarp. Sideswipe appears to be a retool of Siege Sideswipe, replacing his Cybertronian vehicle components with Earth vehicle components, while Skywarp is a redeco of Airazor to make the bird look like a bald eagle, and has a new robot mode head.

I'm not impressed with Sideswipe. Like Mirage in the previously announced Amazon 2-pack, I didn't feel the Siege mold was different enough from his Earth form in the first place, so this version seems like only minor changes to me. Skywarp... I'm a bit mixed on. Unlike Grimlock, it looks like they did a pretty good job with the paint on this figure, although I'm not sure why they used a light brown on one section of the wings, when it should match the rest of the wing. Having the eagle head over the robot mode head might be accurate to the character, but because the mold has the beast mode head in the middle of the chest, this looks odd having two eagle heads.

I'm wondering why they didn't just name the bald eagle Silverbolt, since BW Silverbolt actually turns into a bald eagle. Sure, he won't combine, but that's never stopped Hasbro before.

Skywarp is a reference to the "Beast Wars 2" release of Magna Boss. (The figure looks like shit. The facade eagle head..... No excuse. If it cannot be done well, it should not be done. This should not have made it past the concept stage.)

I like the Sideswipe. But, I am not buying an Amazon two-pack.

I'm in. Air Razor is an amazing figure and it stands to reason that they would figure a way to repaint/remold the Kingdom figures so yeah this seems like a pretty obvious one. I mean, given how the mold works, how else were they supposed to get the eagle head on the robot head?

That, and I think Hasbro may have wanted to avoid calling this figure Silverbolt because of the Fuzor character.

Besides giving the figure a new robot head, they could have re-engineered the beast head/chest of the figure.
