Animated Series discussion thread (spoilers allowed)

Some cartoon with big chins and a little girl that got beloved by fans and taken off TV to make way for a different show on another network. Yeah, that's fair.

Animated Series discussion thread (spoilers allowed)

Post by Dominic »

I have read the episodes adapted into comic form.

I know Crossrook and Gomess have seen the show though.

I will post more as the thread develops. But, I am liking what I have seen so far.

The show gets much better by the season 2 finale, which was, IMO, the best season Finale since "Nemesis, Pt. 2"

I find it only Just Good Enough To Watch. Some bits are really kickass and excite me, while others fall insanely flat. I'm not a fan of Bumblebee but Bulkhead is great.

I had put down much of Sari's character to cartoon logic. Cartoon kids rarely have both parents, and the absence of one or the other is usually shrugged off. I figured her affinity for the key was just McGuffin magic. Finally, cartoon kids are not always shown going to school. So, I really did not see the whole "Sari is not human" thing coming. Of course, this is more a shot at the genre as a whole than at "Animated" as a series.

This means that Megatron is her father, and ties in with one of the general things I like about "Animated", the intelligent use of stupid ideas from the movie.

I wasn't surprised, but that's because there's been theories going around since day one. >.>

Mind, there's not a lot of 'explanation.' It could simply be that she's got a Lot of Robot Parts, or something.

Either way, I think they are going for a "creation" story here. Sumdak(?) will likely have to fight for what he built against Megatron (who has moral claim to much of it), with Sari in the middle. There may be some kind of father dynamic, with Megatron as the "biological" father and Sumdak(?) as the "custodial" father.

I see you're unsure Dom, so FYI, it's 'Sumdac' (Cadmus spelled backwards, y'see).

Frankly, while I saw it coming thanks to the swirling speculation that O6 mentioned, the whole Sari thing still confuses the hell outta me. She can't just be a robot. She eats, she gets sick, her hair grows (but not overnight!), and she was even affected by Blackarachnia's "anti-life" wave, or whatever. So she's gotta be biological in some respects. Maybe Sumdac's baby daughter was horribly injured in some accident, and he used the Cybertronian technology he cribbed from Megatron to restore her? Gah, I dunno...

THIS is why waiting for new seasons is so agonizing. Rest assured, the S2 finale was immensely kickass.

I vote Sari just has a bionic arm, and Sumdac forgot to tell her.

Could be. Except...the whole thing with the "no birth record, social security number, mother" kinda point otherwise...

I would assume Sari is a very intricately designed machine, using nano-tech and such. Remember the enhanced slug from the first episode? She might be like that, and have some organic parts. And, given the rules of cartoon engineering, (and what we know machines can do *now* anyway), it is not too unreasonable to assume that Sari is built to process organic matter as food/fuel, prehaps using it to add to her mass, simulating growth.

Many of the differences Sari would likely have with a real child would not be an issue because.....she does not go to school and would have few friends. Similarly, no birth certificate means the state would have no record of her, (meaning she is not required to go to school), and no teachers would notice oddities. There would be no medical examinations.

And, if there are mechanical differences, say for example, she is passing more or less intact food. Who would she tell? And, why would she bother? Any oddities about Sari would be "normal" to her, and Sumdac himself would certainly not say anything.
