proposal to restructure the board

Post by Dominic »

Okay, I have not even sent the "we are up" message yet, and things are getting hectic here.

So, I say we break up the forum into different sections.

I will post in a few minutes.

G1/G2
BW/BM
ArmEnerTron
Movie (including the sequel)
Animated
Classics/New Universe
Everything Else (RID, MW, old Universe, old convention crap, whatever)

Not necessarily in that order, but yeah.

I was thinking along similar lines, this 1 forum situation was really just a jumping off point, you guys decide how to best name stuff and whatnot. If you can get the sections title and description together in the next 12 hours, I'll do my best to get it done before Saturday proper.

Honestly, I probably would have just lazily gone "TF:A", "TF:U", "All the older stuff", "Gen Discussion".

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I decided to go with a theme of putting a semi-relevant TF quote under each one, since...well, we all know what these are. The only one that's not a TF quote is ArmEnerTron, because it's funnier.

Chillout
We are here. We are waiting.

Geewun
Prime told me there'd be days like this!

Beast Era
We'll Call It The Beast Wars!

ArmEnerTron
For fun and profit!

Live-Action Movies
Before time began, there was...the cube.

Animated
I'll rip out your optics!

Classics & Universe
Is it really you, Optimus Prime?

Everything Else
Use your imagination!

Okay, now that I am able to stand again, (but paradoxically sitting in a computer lab here on campus), lets hash this out.

First, I again want to thank JT for building this place. I tell ya, if JT ran the Teamsters, unions would have a better name all around.

Now, here is my vision for the board:

General:
-general talk section: This would be where non-TF talk goes. Discussion of other lines, and events in our lives and the world would go here. Comic reviews and such could also go here.
-admin and support: Pretty much self explanatory. Problems with the board and such could be adressed here. We could also have pinned tech support threads.
-hauls and product listing: Again, self explanatory. If you bought, or simply saw, a toy, this would be the place to discuss it.
-hauls and product lists, as well as trading post: Buy/Sell/Trade toys, and list what we have purchased or simply seen. (I noticed that "I found this" is usually followed by a "I could use one of those", so this seems like a good fit.
-conventions anc clubs: Cons and related merchandise could be listed here. And, this would be a good place for the "lets meet" threads.

Miscellaneous Transformers: I suggest putting this here at the top, as these lines may be ignored otherwise.
-Alternators/Binaltech/Kissplay: Look, if somebody asks about KP, we have to be honest and mature, and tell them at it is TF kiddie-porn.
-Robot Heroes: Seems to draw from several aspects of the franchise.
-Titaniums: see above
-Universe: Ayup. Look up.
-Classics: And.....you can figure it out.
-crossovers: SWTF, Marvel, whatever else. I see Hasbro expanding on this concept with other lines, so we may as well have a dedicated forum. No. Screw it. Let us never speak of these.
other: Attacktix, whatever else......
-Transforensics: Help with identifying parts or toys.

Generation 1 and Generation 2: I suspect that these forums would be pretty quiet. But, every so often there are re-issues of toys and reprints of comics. And, many new/returning fans need refreshers on the old stuff. I know there may be some call to break this up into "US/UK", and "Japanese" forums. But, I have seen that sort of thing attempted at other boards, and it adds more redundancy than anything.

Beast Era:
-Beast War:
-Beast Machines:
RiD: This line capped off the Beast years. The few "new" toys in it were largely un-used Beast Era toys, and most of the engineering is consistent with the Beast Era or earlier.
-other: Japanese series, convention and other exclusive comics would go here. (There is enough of this stuff to warrant its own section I would say.

Unicron Trilogy:
-Armada:
-Energon
-Cybertron
-misc: The fan club seems to be milking this era in text stories and such.

Movie/Animated: These seem to naturally compliment each-other. And, we know the movie is good for at least a couple of sequels, so a dedicated forums is warranted.
-movie
-animated

Come on, guys. We can't go around and set up a board like this and then NOT name the general discussion The WHA-?

Seconded. I don't think a "Creativity Forum" of some sort would be a bad idea, either. It was underused back in the day, but still...

Ahh, finally, the chance to reorganise the boards. 'One' ArmEnerTron forum! Heh.

Reminds me, though, must go start up the music thread again. And a new RPG, just 'cause.

Ok, so for now, I've kinda gone with a mishmash of ideas to create a balanced forum. Too many sections hampers interaction as people feel overwhelmed. It doesn't have to be permanent, but for the next week and a half, I'd rather not make any changes as I won't be around and I kinda like how it flows.

"The WHA - " seems very much like something of Ben's, and I don't want to take away from that, so for now I'm going with this rather sucky alternative that makes me laugh because it reminds me of Mr T.

I feel like the general forum and such should be at the top, because it's more active and crap. Or tends to be. Or something.
