Best thing in TF

Post by Dominic »

Think of this as a sort of positive counterpoint, (anti-complaining), to JT's thread.

Let's kick this off with a sort of chaotic "best of" theme, and narrow it down as we go.

Me, I really like "Universe" Sunstreaker. It is a great mold, and a good character, with a well-written tech-spec.

"Generation 2" was pretty good. And, I kind of miss the energy of creativity of early "Armada" toys and comics.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Toy-wise, I can see that.

Lesseee.......

I really like "Cybertron" Red Alert, and Metroplex, and several others.

In RiD, lesseee, the Predacon and Autobot 3 packs are pretty sweet. And, who can so "no" to the Build Team?

RID was really just great, even the fiction. Of course, I guess you need to like the flavour, but hey.

Cybertron, though, had a horrible show.

Just the first half. The second half was made out of love, magic, and awesome.

I have vast fields of love for early G1 storybooks and the way they present the TF concept. Also, let's see. The following is a list of the things I love most in TF:

Boxart
Optimus Prime and Megatron (Seriously, I love Prime and Megs. I do.)
Soundwave and the Cassetticons
The Seekers
The Constructicons
The Combaticons
Cityformers and base modes
Man of Iron
Geoff Senior
Early Simon Furman
Comics Shockwave
Comics Galvatron
The Golden Lagoon
Starscream's Brigade and The Revenge of Bruticus
The Gambler
Transformers: The Movie
Octane's show appearance
Multichangers
Gestalts in general
Obscure mail-away characters in general
Really bizarre moments in Japanese G1
All things Star Saber and Goryu
Predators and Turbomasters
Clench
Generation 2 Megatron
The G2 comics
Laser Rods
The sheer oddball factor in early Beast Wars material
Barbearian and all things Polar Claw
BW Scorponok
Ultra Primal
Torca
Magnaboss and Tripredacus
BW2 Galvatron and Megastorm
Big Convoy and Magmatron
Everything to do with Vehicons
RID and CR as a whole
RID Bruticus
Cryotek
Air Attack Optimus Primal
Sky-Byte
The endearing factor with Hot Shot
Armada Megatron
Armada Thrust and Sideways
The Moonbase saga
Energon Basics
Cybertron's toyline as a whole
The BWR-01 set
Classics Megatron
Jaguar Ravage

There will be more, these are off the top of my head and cover many things that keep me coming back for more.

This is a tough question. There's so much I like about Transformers that it's sometimes hard to pick what I think is the best. But here are a few things:

- Online fandom. Let's face it, I might not even be in the collecting hobby still if not for the interaction with fans on the internet. I still enjoy discussing the figures and the fiction with other fans.
- Classics/Universe. I love this line. I got into Transformers back when it first came out, and the original toys and characters are still my sentimental favorites, even if the newer figures are far better from a technical and engineering standpoint. So I really enjoy the new versions of the classic characters. Bumblebee, Sunstreaker, Onslaught, etc... on an on. For a long time fan like me, this is just the type of product I really enjoy.
- The tremendous variety of product we get. Look at all the different sizes and shapes of characters, and the variety of things they turn into. Transformers are, to me, far more entertaining and enjoyable than standard action figures, simply for the tactile pleasure of shifting them from one mode to the other.

Damn, '86 stole like, half my list! Oh well, absolute love, off the top of my head:

Sky Lynx
Beast Wars
Kicker

Now if only I could get those three things together somehow...
