Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

The Batman Silver Age omnibus vol. 1 Detective Comics #233 July 1956 Cover art: Sheldon Moldoff Regarding the image on the cover: Is it a competition Robin? Aren't you on the same side? Batman doesn't seem at all pleased that the Bat-woman is racing ahead of them. Meanwhile she's all smiles. I like...

Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

Batman #100 June 1956 Before we get into any of the stories, I wanted to pause and look at the cover. It's very rare for books in this era to look back, based on what I've read, and we didn't see anything like this when Detective Comics hit anniversary issues. Batman #100 gives us six past issues t...

Re: Comics are Awesome III

Today's comics: Green Lantern #30/597. Green Lantern Corps #11 and Aquaman #12. Aquaman is a K.O. tie-in. I've tried to read that series, but it feels like a fighting video game with an "excuse plot" just so characters can fight. Hopefully the Aquaman issue will be better than the main ser...

Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

and each had a power ring made of a special ore, mined on Titan, Saturn's moon. That's an interesting idea, I had always assumed (to the extent I had ever thought about it) that the ore for the rings came from Oa. So why would certain GLs have rings made of ore from Titan? What's special about it? ...

Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

It's been a while since we were reading Green Lantern, and I left it in what turns out to be the middle of a story, so on to the next part. Green Lantern is still a backup feature on Flash at this point, and it will be that way for a while, judging by the table of contents in the omnibus. The Flash ...

Re: Comics are Awesome III

I agree with most of what you wrote. I like Jeremy Adams's stories and the way he follows up on older storylines, but he doesn't seem to be a writer who thinks his way through every last detail, and he rushes through explanations to get where he wants to go. "Sloppy" is a good word for it....

Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

I remember a lot of griping about the "Lights Out" story and the concept of an emotional reservoir that can be tapped dry, and I tend to agree that it doesn't really make sense. I would think all the various people in the universe would generate emotion, making an inexhaustible supply. Ma...

Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

I don't know how retro eleven year old Green Lantern comics are, but I've been enjoying the "Green Lantern by Robert Venditti" omnibus. Hard to believe that it's been 11 years since Geoff Johns's final issue and Robert Venditti taking over the series. I remember a lot of griping about the ...

Re: 2025 Hauls!

Looks like a nice figure from the pictures that I've seen. Nice that it came out early. Got the Green Lantern by Robert Venditti omnibus volume 1. That was the one series I kept reading all through the New 52, and it was pretty good, though the follow up Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps was be...

Re: Retro Comics are Awesome

We have reached the final issue of Detective Comics in the final Batman Golden Age omnibus. Man, I've been writing up reviews for these stories for a long time now! Just one issue of Batman left in this book, Batman #100. Even though the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, etc. terms are somewhat ar...
