Re: Dreamwave G1 read-through

Shame on me for not catching that reference years ago.

The Prowl thing ties in to the idea that took root among some fans that Prowl is a jerk (going back to G1, when Prowl would call out Grimlock for being stupid).

Re: Dreamwave G1 read-through

Nice "Dark Knight Returns" reference there, Don.
Refresh my memory. (I like to think I would recall this. But, I cannot.)

As much as I liked IDW's Prowl, I never understood why some elements of the fandom decided he was a bad guy years before "All Hail Megatron".

Re: Transformers: Legacy

Tranatulas' robot-crotch is supposed to be the spider-mode face. That was the idea of the original toy and the cartoon. The number of eyes changing was the sort of cheat that was common in the beast-era. (The fact that the BW cartoon cheated so aggressively is why I am a little more forgiving of fac...

Re: Dreamwave G1 read-through

I reread "War Within" a few years back. Figueroa carried that book. Fun fact: In '02, I actively wanted to be out of comics. This was not the sort of idle "I might be out of comics" that we all go through. For a number of reasons, I made a decision that I would be out of comics by the end of that ye...

Re: Dreamwave G1 read-through

"Revolution" was terrible. Hasbro tries to use their most (arguably only) viable property to carry or relaunch failing and moribun properties. MASK might have stood on its own. But, tying in the back story to that idiotic Dire Wraith storyline killed it as something that could work on its own. IDW n...

Re: Transformers: Legacy

Tarantulas' spider face (or robot crotch) are facades of each-other. It is the sort of thing that I can accept on BW figures. But, it is still facade parts. I actually bought Tarantulas on Thursday. (Last week has a slog. Issues with Verizon, helping my cousin find a place for her cat, and other thi...

Re: Transformers: Legacy

I skipped Tarantulas and Knock-Out last week. (I saw then at Newbury's with prices that would make me blink even in better times.) Both look good, though Tarantulas's facade parts bother me. Jhiaxus - I like this better than I expected to, but the vehicle mode suffers badly from dumping parts hither...

Re: Last Bot Standing

I wanted to like this. I really did. I hoped that it would tap in to the best of what IDW had done. Roche is the guy who had the "Frank Miller moment" with "Last Stand of the Wreckers". Instead, it leaned in on the worst of IDW. Loose, overly emotive, story telling. Awful art. And, lettering so bad ...

Shattered Glass II

I plan to post more about this. It looks like IDW, a company that went out of its way to be contrarian, is closing out with a largely conventional, and generally competent, run of comics. At a thematic level, it works for 'Glass. The premise of "reverse universe" lends itself to the kind of obnoxiou...

Re: Dreamwave G1 read-through

RID was current at the time (mid-02). The toys were gorgeous, and deserved better media than the cartoon.

I really wanted that RID comic. (The 5 issues of "Armada" from Saracinni and Raiz are still some of my favorite TF content.)
